10 Reasons Africa Is And May Remain Poor And Underdeveloped. by Seandeeds(m): 10:28am On Mar 19, 2015
Africa is the poorest continent on earth, despite its richness in both human and material resources. According to official figures, over the last 30 years, worldwide absolute poverty has fallen sharply (from about 40% to under 20%). But in African countries the percentage has barely fallen. Still today, over 40% of people living in sub-Saharan Africa live in absolute poverty.

I am a proud African. It still doesn't mean I should not say the truth that we have too many problems in Africa. Our problems are multi-faceted.

Several reasons have been given for Africa's underdevelopment. What can be responsible for this? In this article, find 10 factors, among others, that are responsible for the backwardness in Africa.

1) Wickedness

This may sound primitive, yet it's the truth. Africa is like the headquarters of wickedness. Wickedness starts and ends on the continent of Africa. It's only in Africa you would buy a car and you can't take it to your village. It's only in Africa people can't be honest with their good news and successes. It's so bad that in a whole village, you may not find anyone who is successful. This is because the ones that were successful have been killed by some envious step mum, family member and neighbour. The writer can testify, first hand, to this kind of wickedness.

2) Fear

The fear of failure is the beginning of failure. Most Africans are so afraid of failure that the would rather remain downtrodden. Even in the face oppression and repression by the various corrupt governments, Africans are afraid to speak out and stand up to the oppression. Even in our personal lives, most African are risk averse. they will never take that bold step.

3) Slave mentality

Many Africans are still suffering from slave mentality. this is a conceptual theory around feelings of inferiority within some societies post-European colonialism.
"A slave is one who waits for someone to come and free him"

~ Ezra Pound

Just a little example here, Nigeria is waiting for America, Chad and Cameroon to come help defeat Boko Haram. As Africans, we wait on the West for everything. In the 18th and 19th centuries, did the West wait for anyone to help them develop their economies? Until we learn to think like free and self sufficient race, we are going nowhere.

4) Complacency

Africans are so complacent. It is like a curse on the land. I am African myself, so I know what I am talking about. We are OK with our poverty. We allow our rulers to get away with their loots.

5) Laziness

Many effects of laziness include poor health, low self-esteem, lack of hope, and low self-confidence. As a continent, if all the ills now apply to us, what do you think the effect will be?
Let's use our universities as case-study. When was the last time you heard about a study or research in any African university? Universities are places of research and learning. All we do in our universities is teach, after lectures, our Doctors and Professors would sit at the pepper soup joints to eat and drink, while their counterparts in the developed economies are busy in the lab and various research centres. The government alone cannot be blamed for this.

Africans are also overly Spiritual.....waiting for amadioha, sango do everthing for them, probably looked at the first white man in their village as a messenger from the gods. This level of spirituality is the reason for the laziness, wickedness we see. Christianity/islam brought civilisation to the continent but are different forms of the same problem
