An operation that lasted for 9 hours led to the first successful penis transplant in the World. It was led by team of surgeons in South Africa. Surprisingly, this operation was carried out last year( December 11, 2014) but it was kept undisclosed to the public in order to see how the patient recovers. Normally, it takes up to two years for the patient to recover. But he unexpectedly recovered so early.

He is said to have regained sexual, urinary and reproductive capabilities. The hospital, Stellenbosch University and Tygerberg Hospital in. Cape Town did not give the name of the patient. The only information available on the patient is that he is a 21 year old who lost his penis when he suffered severe complications from circumcision. His penis was therefore amputated to save his life.

Many South Africa men has witnessed increased health dangers and complications resulting from mistakes in circumcision. An estimated 500 people have died since 2006 from circumcision alone in the Eastern Cape province. Generally, about 250 penis amputations are done yearly in South Africa to save men who suffers from complications resulting from circumcision
