The National Coordinator of a Yoruba group, Odua Peoples Congress, Gani Adams, says President Goodluck Jonathan deserves praise from members of the All Progressives Congress for approving a contract for the OPC to protect pipelines across the South-West.

Adams said the contract would provide at least 5,000 jobs for his boys and 10,000 jobs for other youths in the South-West.

He said this while reacting to the allegation by the APC that Jonathan bribed ethnic militias with N9bn to scuttle the elections.

Adams, who came under fire for leading thousands of youths to protest against the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega, in Lagos last Monday, said supporting Jonathan was in the interest of the Yoruba nation.

He said the APC should be commending Jonathan for approving contracts for the OPC because only the Niger-Delta militants were benefitting from the oil money before now.

He said, “The allegation is that the Federal Government gave us a contract: Pipeline security. What is the security of pipeline to the OPC? We have been running this organisation without getting a dime from any government but most of the security agencies saddled with the responsibility of protecting the pipelines have failed; people were dying every day.

“Nigeria was losing more than N3bn everyday to the activities of the vandals and the agitation of that contract started from Dr. Fredrick Fasehun one and a half years ago and you know the bureaucracy of Nigerian ministries. It was a long process and it was just granted and it will empower nothing less than 5,000 youths from my side.

“Altogether, that is about 15,000 jobs for Yoruba land. Will you deny Yoruba youths the opportunity of getting 15,000 jobs because of politics?”

Adams said the APC was only being hypocritical because most of its leaders had oil licences. He said the major reason they were against Jonathan was because their licences were due to expire in September and they feared he would not renew the contracts.

Useless man parading as freedom fighter!

The bold is another reason why Jonathan does not deserve another four years. All security agencies under this administration have failed woefully just because militants must be pacified.

We need a leader who is capable of putting everyone in their right place and not a clueless drunk who rewards militancy and indirectly finance insurgency for personal ulterior motives.

Then you should tell us the functions and duties of nigeria service defence corps. If at all the service of security will be given out to non governmental organisation or body why can't he give it out to register organization. The security of the country is been provided by the hoodlums from the likes tompolo, asari now to Opc.We are seriously in problem in this country. Is just like throwing somebody into lions cage and be expecting what lion will do for that person.Surely jonathan will loose south west and the general election and nothing he can do about it.We are waiting for opc on election day we know ourselves. After the election Opc will refund the money back or gani and fasheun will end their career in jail.

And I know that is a statement even you know deep inside is wishful thinking. That PDP has been perpetually rejected in Lagos state is a traumatizing source of headache for the ruling party, and will continue to remain so.

Why would Lagosians vote PDP when they know that Buhari of the APC (which is the ruling party in Lagos) will win the Presidency and benefit the state?

You have a brain bro, USE IT. wink

A government that knowingly armed/funded a group of thugs is just unreal. I'm very surprised that non-indegenes living in the SW are not more vocal about opposing this. How do you guys think all the major terrorists groups in the world get started, indirect government funding. This one however is direct, willingly, openly.. smh. I've always had this feeling that they want chaos in the SW to weaken the region but I always shook that thought off as extreme now I'm not sure it's such an extreme thought.

First things first OPC has no clout whatsoever in Lagos, they have always been seen as thugs, oppressors, vigilante group at best. No one is worried about losing Lagos because of OPC.

We're worried about what's going to happen after the elections. If you're a non-indegene and you live in the SW start getting worried bro. This election will come and go and whatever will happen will happen. I just want you to imagine a future with a well armed OPC but hey if you don't live in the SW and you don't have family here as well then just concentrate on how OPC will deliver Lagos for PDP.

Direct government funding of millitants- and we wonder why millitant groups are getting more recruits everyday!

Why won't youths find millitancy more attractive than going to school and waiting for white collar jobs, when they know it's rewarding! May God help us.

I'm not against GEJ helping our SW youths, I just think there are government agencies better equiped to protect our pipe lines. Not Tompolo, not Gani Adams.

Kindly quote a thread I said such.. Buhari ain't an illiterate, attending war schools which are equivalent to diploma certificate doesn't make you an illiterate.. You can make researches yourself instead of being lazy... He went to war schools in India and Usa, you heard his speech when he took over government? That wasn't an illiterate speaking

my sister that is even not the concern, the statement made by Adams indicates that our security agent is useless, they have lost the skill and competence to provide the necessary security for the people, even Jonathan government cannot trust them hence he has to result to hiring hoodlums and licenced them to purchase and own arms, it has because a case of the government who is a custodian of the constitution is the same that is working against its provision by setting up a parallel security agency that the constitution did not provide for. Why do we still blame boko haram on the innocent people when it is obvious that Jonathan government runs substandard security agencies which are incapable of providing security needed by the country, another vote for Jonathan will turn this country upside down, we will be more vulnerable to external invasion since it appears the head of government lacks idea in matters of security.
