The Federal High Court sitting in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, has awarded N30 million damages against Jigawa State governor Sule Lamido and three other defendants for violating the rights of APC senatorial candidate Jigawa central, Hon Muhammad Sabo Nakudu.

The case was filed before the court by the Hon Muhammad Nakudu against the governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido; chairman Birnin kudu local government Muhammad Khalid, the Inspector General of police and the state commissioner of police on alleged trespass in to his house and violating his fundamental human rights.

In his submission to the court, the counsel to the plaintiff, Barr Musa Adamu Aliyu told the court that, the chairman Birnin kudu local government in company of men of Nigeria Police Force attached to the state governor entered into the house of the plaintiff shooting at the wall which was a violation of the plaintiff’s fundamental human rights to life, private and family and right to acquire and own immovable property.

He also prayed the court to declare that neither the governor, police nor any other person has the right to enter into his house unlawfully or shoot sporadically.

According to the suit, the incident happened when the governor, Sule Lamido led the state PDP and its supports to a political rally in Birnin Kudu local government in February 2015.

Delivering the judgment, the presiding judge, Justice Sabiu Yahuza said after hearing and listing carefully to the submission of the learned counsel A.H Sule Esq for applicant and Hussaini Abdullahi Esq for all respondents the court given the considering judgment:

“That all the respondents should jointly pay N30 million damages to the plaintiff”.

“The court also order the respondents to separately published apology to the complainant in two national dailies newspapers and also on local radio stations,” the judge said.

Also speaking after the court ruling, the counsel to the plaintiff Barrister Musa Adamu Aliyu said, they are satisfied with the court judgement in which Governor Lamido and three other defendants would pay N30 million damages to his client and also apologise publicly.

However reacting to the outcome of the judgement the state attorney general and commissioner for justice Barrister Yalubu Ruba said, they were not satisfied with the judgement.

He said, the judgement was full of errors and on this basis they have since appealed at the Federal Appeal Court in Kaduna.
