Activities in the 20 local government areas of
Ogun State were paralysed on Monday as the
local government workers began an indefinite
strike.
The Nigeria Union of Local Government
Employees, Ogun State branch, had on Friday
directed that the entire workforce of the local
government areas, Local Government Service
Commission and Bureau of Local Government
Pensions, to commence an indefinite strike
from Monday, March 30.
This directive was contained in a statement
issued and signed in Abeokuta, by the state
Publicity Secretary of NULGE, Mr. Folarin
Osunsanmi, a copy of which was made
available to our correspondent.
It stated that the “painful decision” was taken
at the state executive council of the union
held on Tuesday, March 24.
The union said it decided to embark on the
strike following alleged refusal of the state
government to implement the agreement
reached with it last January.
They said some of the agreements reached
include payment of outstanding deductions of
workers’ salaries and allowances totalling
N1.56bn.
