TEXT: Genesis 22:17, 24:60

“Blessing i will bless you, and multiplying, i will multiply your descendants, as the stars of heaven, and as the sand which us in the seashore; and your descendants shall posses the GATE of their ENEMIES” (22:17)

“Our sister, may you become the mother of thousands and ten thousands; and may your descendants posses the GATES of those who HATE THEM” (24:60)

Literally, a gate simply means a barrier like a door that is used to close an opening in a fence or a wall outside a building; an iron gate; a barrier used to control traffic or persons, etc, physically. This definition however does not fully comprehend the significance or great importance of gates, given the existence of the following types of spiritual/physical gates;

* Political and Economic gates

* Gate of promotion

* Gate of favour

* Gate of transactions

* Gate of decisions

* Gate of hell and gate of the grave

* Gate of seas and rivers

* Human gate

In our opening text, God himself commands the descendants of Pa Abraham to posses the gates of their enemies . This fact reveals the great essence of the power of gates. This was further deducted from the second part of the text in which the sister of mother Rebecca blessed her and commanded that her descendants should posses the gates of those who hate them.

The significance of the gate was also revealed in the case of Samson, where he was ambushed by his enemies by the gate, to arrest him at twilight. But in order to dispossess them and gain advantage, he single handedly uprooted the gate at midnight, and carried it up to the mountain and consequentially remained a free man (Judges 6:2-3)

At the political gate of life, God raised King Cyrus and opened a gate for him, that no man can shut and with too much wealth following (Isaiah 45:1-3). The nobles undertake economic transactions at the gate (Ruth 4:4). The church of Jesus Christ is the gate to heaven, which Jacob experienced in an encounter with the angel of God. Jesus said to Peter . that he is the rock upon which his church will be established and the gate of hell shall not prevail against it (Matthew 16:18).

There are ample examples that reveal the power and importance of the gate keepers, physically and spiritually . The king of Jericho ordered the closure of the gates of the city round the clock, to prevent the Israelites from passing through it Nehemiah ordered a temporary closure of the gates of Jerusalem to avoid intruders after the reconstruction (Nehemiah 3:29). Mordecai was a gate keeper who’s vigilance revealed a secret plot to assassinate the king, and his reward thereafter was promotion.

A gate keeper can hinder one from meeting his/her destiny helper, either because of corruption, jealousy or just dislike. Similar scenario exists a greater degree in the spiritual realm, on the powers of gates and their assigned keepers. The prince of the kingdom of Persia withheld angel Gabriel for 21 days from delivering Daniel’s blessing from God. In one of our very recent deliverance during church, a witch confessed that their agents follow their victims to church, but stand outside the church gates (because of power and fire in the church) and to collect their blessings after the service.

Every new level of life attracts a new devil. God has given a great inheritance in Abraham, which was by the blood of Jesus. but you must contend with the strong man/woman at the gate of your life, by the dispossessing them, otherwise will be impoverished for your ignorance and cowardice, for victory is not a product of assumption, but of battle . May be the controller of the gate of your life in the name of Jesus!
