I got meself a cauc last december, very friendly, plays with every one,I even felt he was to gentle for a cauc,I concludd his gentle nd playfulness was becos he grw up with a playful breed..oh sorry!! I ddnt mention I had a lhasa b4 getting a cauc...anyways my cauc is about 5months now...its like someone just fliped a switch..he just started getting aggressive..at first I was ok cos he barks at strangers and whenever he hears a knock at the gate...but all of a sudden about two weeks ago, he just added my neighbours(I have two neigh bours ) to d list its so bad that once he sniffs dem approaching even b4 he sights them, cos my apartment is close to the gate, so my neighbours pass beside my dogs b4 goin out nd he has known nd played with these neighbours since I got him at 6weeks.....I don't know if dis is normal..he barks at dem nd enters attack mode with his fur all at attention...b4 they will start clamouring for my ejection from the house ..is it possible to make him stop barking at my neighbours.
Re: My Cauc Just Changed..help!! by Seun(m): 12:29pm On Apr 03, 2015
Pure Caucasians are bred to behave like that. They are natural guard dogs. That is their purpose in life. You cannot stop them from barking. You need to sell the dog to someone who needs a Caucasian Shepherd dog. For example, a farmer whose sheep are being attacked by wolves. Or a security company. Or a security-conscious family that lives in their own compound with no tenants.

Try making them be the one to pass his food to him whenever you want to feed him

Please don't heed the above advise. Its wrong.

@ op, take Seun's advice or get a spacious wooden cage for your Caucasian.

Imagine d way some people reason
Somebody is seeking for a solution and I hear sell the dog, for F sake that should be the last option
Op that's why u need to know about a breed before U get one anyway Cauc's default mode is aggresion and it gets worse when u cage it up, bliv me, it turns to a monster that even U might not handle, socialise socialise socialise is the key to a good and happy cauc. Exercise too to burn the energy or it will look for where to pour it on

^^^ if the op insists on keeping his Cauc, wouldn't it be wise for him to get a cage for it where it can stay during the day when his neighbours will be going back and forth?

Or do you subscribe that the op allows his neighbours to feed his dog as someone suggested ealier all in the name of socializing?
Re: My Cauc Just Changed..help!! by mayorall(m): 9:39am On Apr 04, 2015
Your dog is an aggressive breed ( Research) . You have to socialise the dog. Take him/her out. Also she's saving too much calorie. Always walk her. You can let him/her play middle man at your free time. More importantly, always socialise puppies with neighbours * (mistake you made).

Another solution?

Are you the leader of the park?. Does your dog sees you as his master? . If yes.

Show the other side of you when she barks at the two neighbours. Within two weeks, He/She will change.

Learn from this.

Your dog is showing territorial behaviour.

My dog plays with neighbours outside my apartment but doesn't joke with anyone at my corridor. I give her big shouts when she barks at them while passing my corridor, Now she stopped barking at them at my territory but doesn't spare passersby.

The dog will become a beast if caged.

Caucasian Shepherds can be like that, but it usually begins when they are about 10 months old. What you describe makes me suspect there is something you missed. The neighbours might have triggered him, albeit unknowingly. Is there a particularly young kid that lives with them who has access to the dog? Is your dog caged a lot?

Well, I stay on the ground floor..wit a large balcony he's usually at my balcony..unless when I wanna walk him nd my lhasa nd sometimes I just let them roam free around the compound..but there was a time when one of the kids threw stones at him..he was about 3nd half months then..I cautioned him nd I reported to the dad..neva saw him again..unless the kids or their dad still throw stones at him dat I don't know
Re: My Cauc Just Changed..help!! by Apitch(m): 11:36am On Apr 04, 2015
Now u are identifying the problem, kids often annoys dogs and dogs will instinctly switch to default self defence(don't near me or my space) so correct it
When we say socialize we mean introduce humans n other animals to him/her so they can see them as friends n not enemies. Make the dog sit beside U while u chat with ur neigbours

Aha! We are getting somewhere. Have you noticed if it's just members of their flat he charges at? The challenge you have can still be corrected, but it is evident that you need to be a firm pack leader. That dude sounds like a domineering one. Will translate to bites/maulings if you are not careful.

Its the kids of one of the neighbours I caught throwing stones at my Dog..not the parent...nd dat was about two months ago..unless they are still doing it nd I dnt know..but now..both neighbours, their kids every one in the whole house aside me nd my babe..gets barked at, at any encounter with him..but when either my babe or me happens to be there nd I say. "Stop" or "sit" or some times "shut up"..he keeps quiet nd doesn't bark anymore

That he stops barking does not mean he will not try to bite if the opportunity presents itself. Prepare to spend good money on behavior sessions if you don't do ALOT of research on dog behavior right away. @TailLords on Twitter have a certified animal behaviorist if it gets out of hand.

Best of luck bro

i have a 5 months old caucasian that behaves exactly as described by the op. He has been so used to my neighbours wife, but suddenly began showing aggressive actitude towards her. She now finds it difficult to enter her compound when the dog is roaming about. I think it is part of their behavioural change. I have suggested she feeds him when at home and that seems to be working.

@bold. I gave this same suggestion but someone advised against it, I don't know why. Allowing the neighbors feed the dog will give him the sense that they are part of his family since they all stay in thesame compound. @OP....I think there's a clear boundary in the compound which tells the dog who is who. Maybe you are the type that doesn't allow your neighbors into your flat, and as your dog only sees you and your girlfriend going in through your door and not even entering your neighbor's, it gets the feeling that they don't belong in his protection list. Make sure you walk the dog every evening as soon as you return from work. After the first 2weeks of doing that, take a neighbor along when next you want to walk him. As soon as you see that the dog is calm around that neighbor, encourage him to handle the leash and also walk the dog on your behalf. This will give the dog the feeling that he belongs to a very large family. @seun.....I don't like the way you're treating this pet section. Can't this grace FP?
