With 290+ irrespective of your state of origin, you are getting mbbs on merit !!! And don't worry about olevels....my olevel was 1B3 and the rest Cs ...so the school doesn't consider that......
Hi, sorry I have to quote this again. Pls what about this problem of just 2 or 3 people getting picked in a state? Does it not apply.to merit?

Trust me! Merit doesn't consider the number of candidate from a state; merit is merit
