SU 27/30 are also not off the shelf. There is no show room where you buy top of the line aircraft and take it home.

One of the advantages of Buhar's approach however is Russian govt can give us from their own stock, do crash program for our pilots which still won't take below 18months OR better still, Russian pilots come and do the job temporarily. That is how complex procurement is. Its only easy in the mind of the ignorant
I actually agree with you see we can get along.
The reason why I chose the SU27/ 30
1. It is a step up for our NAF pilots who trained to proficiency on the J-7/ F7 Chengdu Jet .
Required training will be between 1-2 years.
2 Since three of African Brother/ Sister nations ( Algeria, Angola and Uganda) already operate these Aircraft we can learn from them.

That should be on Henry or siriusblack thread, I was never part of those who said or supported igirigI last long. The igirigi has no production line/plant like what we have now- NAVMC. The few igirigi that was preduced where built in the workshop of NA engineers unlike the NAVMC; the venture might look small now but they are impressive. What they need do is to seek for external engineers to help out improve on the design .

ENHANCING INTERNAL SECURITY: NAF CONDUCTS COUNTER TERRORISM EXERCISE ALONG KADUNA-BIRNIN GWARI ROAD

As part of its continued efforts geared towards developing the capacity of its personnel to combat terrorism and secure lives and properties of Nigerians, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) today, 28 October 2019, conducted a Counter Terrorism (CT) Simulation Exercise along Kaduna-Birnin Gwari Road. The Exercise, code named “EXERCISE NA ZO”, was aimed at testing NAF operational doctrine and tactics for effective CT operations as well as evaluating the synergy between air and surface forces in a complex air-ground operational environment. The CT Exercise (CTEX) involved NAF Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platforms as well as attack aircraft along with NAF Special Forces (SF) and Canine (K-9) Teams, who were practiced on their individual and group skills in the planning, coordination and execution of CT operations.

Speaking during the Exercise, the Special Guest of Honour (SGOH), Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Abayomi Olonisakin, highlighted the critical importance of training and exercises to a fighting force, like the NAF, towards ensuring greater success in combat operations. According to him, the NAF had blazed the trail by ensuring that its personnel are engaged in exercises that evolve lessons, tactics and doctrine in the conduct of CT operations. Gen Olonisakin stated that, as a Service vested with the enviable role of protecting the territorial integrity of Nigeria by air, the timing of the Exercise was apt, affording the NAF the opportunity to assess the physical alertness and combat readiness of its personnel with a view to making necessary adjustments and changes. “Even more important is the fact that an event of this nature is being organized at a time the NAF and its sister Services are engaged in counterinsurgency (COIN) operations in the Northeastern part of Nigeria as well as Anti-banditry in the North West and North Central”, he said.

The CDS seized the opportunity to express his profound appreciation to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (C-in-C), President Muhammadu Buhari, for his continued support to the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) in general and the NAF in particular. He noted that Nigerians were undoubtedly appreciative of the C-in-C’s commitment to ensuring a secured Nigeria as well as the efforts of the AFN in the fight against terrorism and other societal ills. While congratulating the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, and his team for the well-conceived and timely exercise, the CDS expressed optimism that the underlying lessons of the event would go a long way in resolving the current security challenges in the Country.

In his remarks, the CAS expressed his delight to have the CDS physically present to witness the first ever CTEX conducted by the NAF. He noted that the Exercise was deliberately conceptualized to practice NAF air and ground elements in order to engender a better understanding of the nuances of air-ground integration as well as other critical elements of CT operations. He disclosed that the Service would conduct a number of such exercises between October 2019 and January 2020 with a view to identifying and tackling problems associated with air-ground integration as well as highlighting the crucial role of joint planning and coordination to the success of operations. Furthermore, he said the planned simulation exercises would also enable the Service to appraise the effectiveness of its Force Protection in Complex Air-Ground Environment (FPCAGE) measures in securing its bases and air assets for efficient, unhindered conduct of air operations. Air Marshal Abubakar noted that, similar to EXERCISE NA ZO, the forthcoming exercises would practice NAF Flying Units; Regiment and Special Forces Teams; Air Provost and K-9 Units as well as Intelligence and other elements, such as Medical, to enhance coordination and improve decision-making of commanders in order to ensure mission accomplishment in virtually every encounter. He added that the conduct of such training had become even more crucial given the increasing involvement of NAF Regiment and SF personnel in Internal Security (IS) operations across the Country.

In his welcome address, the Air Officer Commanding Special Operations Command (AOC SOC), Air Vice Marshal James Gwani, said the CTEX was in consonance with the CAS’ Vision to “reposition the NAF into a highly professional and disciplined force through capacity building initiatives for effective, efficient and timely employment of air power in response to Nigeria’s national security imperatives”. The timing for the event, he said, could not have been more apt as the NAF is currently engaged in COIN, anti-banditry and other IS operations in various operational theatres within the country. He believed that the Exercise would go a long way in further developing personnel’s capacity, professionalism and combat readiness as the NAF continues to battle forces of insecurity in the Nation.

Highlights of the occasion included the operational briefing and giving of orders by the Commander 271 NAF Detachment Birnin Gwari, Group Captain Idorenyin Bassey, along with his sub-unit and component commanders, which was held behind closed doors. This was followed by the seamless execution of the operational plan, which featured live firing of rockets from NAF fixed and rotary wing attack aircraft; insertion, by rappelling, of NAF SF and K-9 elements and movement of teams into the objective area as well as subsequent rescue of hostages, arrest of the suspected armed bandits, extraction of the assault team by road and evacuation of casualties by air, while being provided with close air support by an attack helicopter overhead the objective.

NIGERIAN ARMY SCHOOL OF INFANTRY GRADUATES THIRD QUARTER COURSES 2019

The Nigerian Army School of Infantry (NASI) has recently graduated her Third Quarter Courses at the Platoon Weapons Wing and the Jaji Drop Zone.

Courses graduated were Advance Range Management Course 36, Skill At Arms Instructors Course 81, Advance Airborne Course 22 and the Basic Rigger Course 32 of 2019.

The Commandant of the School, Maj Gen DH Ali- Keffi in his graduation address, expressed his pleasure for the occasion and described it as an honour for him to organize the graduation.
He reiterated that a good soldier has the ability to judge the sound and distance of a weapon being fired at him.

For the Skill At Arms and Advance Range Management graduates, he urged them not to keep the knowledge imparted in them to themselves but should train others. "Return to the field and train good firers and marksmen. The people you train may be the saving grace of the unit."

To the graduates of Advance Airborne and Basic Rigger Course, the Commandant emphasized that NASI and especially the Airborne wing under the current Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen Tukur Buratai, has witnessed a lot of transformation, that it was the hope of the COAS to have a highly professional Army that would meet the Constitutional requirements. He added that a lot has been invested in them and a lot is expected from them.

He expressed his delight over the report received from the Chief Instructor of Airborne wing, Col NI Ashinze who disclosed that since the inception of the jump school in Jaji, NA Airborne has no major casualty and that was as a result of their safety standard. He therefore, charged the Jump Masters to ensure that nothing is left to chance, admonishing them to continue in ensuring safety first.

A total number of twelve out of twenty nine students assembled successfully graduated in Advance Airborne Course while all twenty three students of Basic Rigger Course assembled graduated successfully and eighteen students that assembled for Skill At Arms and fifty nine that assembled for Advance Range Management Course also successfully graduated.

The occasion was witnessed by invited guests, Staff Officers of NASI, soldiers and members of the public

NAF seems to me as the only arm of the Military that takes training seriously.

NA only sabi route march and obstacle crossing.

The Navy is no where to be found.

And one vital aspect of training we have not seen in a while is a large scale tri-service Integrated training. I think the last one was during President Yar' Adua.

Navy is no where to be found? The tens of Exercises and operations they carry out yearly is what? You think its by media presence?

The SBS that's just returning from a month long joint training in Ghana is what?

27 NAVAL OFFICERS GET UNDERWATER WARFARE, OTHER EXPERTISE
POSTED ON OCTOBER 21, 2019 BY DINFO
TWENTY-seven Nigerian Navy (NN) officers were at the weekend certified as experts in above water, underwater warfare, navigation and other specialization required by navies across the world. Their qualification followed one year’s training at the Nigerian Naval Ship (NNS) QUORRA. The Nation reports that 32 officers took part in the training but five could not graduate due to alleged indiscipline. Commending the officers at their passing out on Friday, Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas said the course was aimed at improving their knowledge as well as equipping them with requisite expertise to perform their naval duties creditably. Ibas, who was represented by the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Naval Training Command (NAVTRAC), Rear Admiral Stanfford Enoch, said the officers were trained in core specialisations, including aircraft and helicopter control, submarine and marine operations, ICT, navigation and direction. The CNS said they would be deployed as specialists in ships, training institutions and other naval formations where their competences would be needed.
He reminded them of the need for self-improvement and continued education to be abreast of rapid changes in naval warfare. Ibas said they would also be required to use the knowledge gained to ensure adequate maintenance and utilisation of expensive platforms acquired for the NN by the Federal Government. “There have been recent massive renewal and recapitalisation of the Nigerian Navy fleet. The operability, maintenance and effectiveness of the fattened efficiency of these ships and platforms will depend mostly on your expertise as junior officers. “During the course you have acquired the required expertise in your chosen specialisation. Consequently, you have been equipped with the potential competences to help you navigate and fight with these modern complex machines as you will bring the knowledge you have acquired to help ensure these platforms are maintained and well used to sustain maritime security,” he said. Citing instance of four participants who were dismissed few days to the completion of the training, Ibas warned that NN would not tolerate experts that were bereft of discipline and sound moral character.
In his welcome address, NNS QUORRA Commandant Commodore Emmanuel Nmoyem said the participants commenced the course on October 15, 2018, adding that it featured intensive training and academic activities. “In furtherance of the transformation efforts of the NN, NAVTRAC reviewed and expanded the officers long course curriculum to reflect emerging contemporary operations. It is hoped that this will significantly improve your knowledge in naval operations and overall performance in the sphere of military operations other than war,” he said.
