First question, what type of gun were the robbers using?
He isnt sbs, since the start of this insurgency navy basic training has placed higher emphasis on field crafts and tactics, an average navy sailor has basic infantry training, unless the standard has dropped again within the last 3 years.

I don't know...I just guessed based on my love for SBS

BHT and ISWAP factions have merged, so have their ideology, the tragic murder of 90 innocent civilians was published on amraq, indicating support from IS central, this trend is very worrisome, but seeing their on the back foot, they attack the people low on the pyramid to attract publicity, the newly appointed commanders are eager to prove their 'worth' , this attack was to usher in their raining season campaign, it failed woefully, as the get more desperate, the string of attacks would continue, Let's hope our armed forces are up to the task

In the long run I believe the tactic would backfire, killing people that you expect mute and turn the other way about your movement and activities, is very foolish, if locals now see them as they are, murderers and terrorist, they won't be hesitant to lend information and intelligence to troops

Martel is under attack according to @adesogan on Twitter..... I wonder why we don't use proximity fuse on our bombs....I read a book titled "ecomog" the author was a ghanian lt.col, and he was talking about how the rebels used to run to climb trees to try to escape Nigerian alpha jets bombs, and he mentioned that this was futile, as the Nigerian bombs were fitted with proximity fuses and exploded in the hair. Have we now lost this capability, or we choose not to use it, especially in raining season.

Marte town is about 25km out of Monguno. The Military should work on Borno North. If these guys have the effrontery to attack Monguno surely they will attack several bases in Borno North during this week.

Marte, Kukawa and Gajiram should be on red alert. Make Airforce Pilots dey sleep inside jet oh

When we talk of humvees l don't think anybody is talking about civilian variant buy the unarmoured Humvee.

As regard 14.5mm caliber bullets and or 12.7 even our MRAP will not stop that particular calibre.

Boko and ISWAP fighters in the main have light weapon indeed 95% + of thier fighter will have the ubiquitous AK47.

So if you have armoured vehicles you have effectively mitigated against 95% of the threat against you. Then you have to find away to deal with the gun trucks, Rpg7's and IED's.

That will reduce DRASTICALLY our casualty rate in the first instance.

I'm still telling you there's no difference between the unarmored Humvee and the civilian variant except the civilian type is made for luxury. I could remember in Iraq the US military had to weld steel plates on some of the unarmored Humvee just to make them relatively safe.

BOKO HARAM/ISWAP - AN IN-DEPTH ANALYSIS OF RECENT CIVILIAN SOFT TARGET ATTACKS

In the early morning hours of Saturday 13th of June 2020, armed groups linked to Boko Haram/ISWAP sleeper cells launched multiple attacks. The attacks were targeted at vulnerable civilians in the villages of Goni Sherrifti; Goni Usmanti; Minamari village; Mariram village-felo ward at Gubio Local Government Area (LGA) and Monguno town along Monguno Marte road.

Subsequently, a fierce fist to fist and close-quarters battle ensued between the Boko Haram/ ISWAP fighters and a coordinated ground and aerial response from the local Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF). This was further reinforced by a coordinated ground and aerial response from the Nigerian Army, the Nigerian Air Force and Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) troops of sector 3 in various locations in Borno State-North East Nigeria.

Early reports indicate a total of 42 civilian casualties. Three gun-trucks belonging to the insurgents were destroyed while several dozens of insurgents were neutralized by 2 Air-Force jets. The intensified bombardment forced the terrorist to withdraw and flee abandoning 9 gun-trucks filled with jerry-cans of fuel.

Attack Dynamics:

The attack began in Goni Usmanti with terrorist on gun-trucks and several motorbikes shooting civilians. 29 civilians died in Goni Usmanti. The Jihadist moved to the village of Mainmari and killed 13 more civilians. On sighting the response convoy of the Nigerian Army from Gubio, the jihadist fled from the scene. On retreat, the insurgents attacked and razed the entire Mariram village. The militants attacked Monguno town at about 11:50 am, through the Charly 1 and Charly 6 entry points shooting dozens of rocket propelled grenade and Anti aircraft guns. At about 12:30pm, the insurgents overran two military formations and forced themselves into the town where they fired several bullets in an IDPs camp. Scores of people were said to have been hit with stray bullets during a crossfire with the troops of Sector 3, MNJTF. The insurgents burnt down a United Nation(UN) Humanitarian hub and several vehicles before disappearing.

Why ISWAP Targets civilian population:

The recent increase in Boko Haram/ISWAP attacks on Muslim civilian population is another major sign of the group’s battlefield nemesis. Renewed attacks on Muslim civilians emerge after a series of coordinated ground and aerial raids by the Nigerian Army, the Nigerian Air Force – and the sector 3, MNJTF Multi against Boko Haram strongest positions in the Sambisa Forest and the Lake Chad Islands. The joint offensive led by the Chief of Army Staff Lt-Gen. Tukur Yusufu Buratai under operation LAFIYA DOLE at Tumbu Gini deflated the strength of the insurgent group as most of Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters and commanders were neutralised and mortally wounded. Some ground sources put the figures above 1000. Although the challenging terrain renders post casualty analysis very difficult for precision.

Boko Haram Commander Cabinet Reshuffled:

The Nigerian Armed Forces and MNJTF successful offensive forced the surviving Boko Haram/ISWAP factions to escape and establish new hideouts. With proactive ‘See something–Say something’ engagement of local communities, the Military Intelligence units of the Nigerian Army and MNJTF have been tracking fleeing jihadist. The efforts targeted around Kumowan, Nganzai LGA and Bidda/Kulli in Marte LGA, Borno State has yielded tremendous success. Many collaborators, sleeper cells commanders and suppliers were nabbed but others went underground.

As a result of heavy personnel loses, the AZWAJ leadership directed for a swift reform of the Boko Haram/ISWAP internal structure. A move triggered by gun shot wounds suffered by the governor of the Tunbuns Amir Baba-Kaka. Boko Haram ISWAP Shura Council directed the reshuffling of fighting teams and top ‘Commanders cabinet’. In an unprecedented move, the jihadist leaders forced out about 1,000 fishermen suspected of acting as spies from the axis of Arinna Soro; Kirta, Sabon Tumbu; Tundun Wulgo; Kusuma others. More than 100 new unit commanders were appointed as replacements. Amongst the newly appointed commanders is one Mohammed Njidda – a notorious Boko Haram member who in known to operate along Marte LGA river banks.

Unit commanders found guilty of disloyalty; showing signs of entertaining rumoured negotiations with the Nigeria state authorities or simply not taken orders from the leadership received a range of punishments. Some were slaughtered; others ostracised from the group; and some demoted to ordinary fighters or slaves. A move that has further generated discontent and suspicion within the jihadist loose command and control structure.

BOKO HARAM AND ISWAP ELEMENTS COMPREHENSIVELY DECIMATED BY TROOPS OF OPERATION LAFIYA DOLE IN YET ANOTHER FAILED ATTEMPT TO OVERRUN MONGUNO IN NORTHERN BORNO

In their avowed resolve to protect the lives and property of our citizens in Northern Borno, the troops of Sector 3 Operation LAFIYA DOLE thwarted the heinous attempt by Boko Haram and ISWAP criminal elements to overrun the peaceful town of Mongonu to unleash mayhem on the law-abiding citizens of the community. The encounter which took place yesterday, 13 June 2020 ended with the gallant troops dealing a devastating blow on the insurgents and capturing or destroying most of their equipment. The criminal insurgents attempted to lay siege on the community as well as the troops’ location with a number of gun trucks and foot soldiers but in a swift reaction, the gallant troops mobilized, enveloped and choked the criminals with superior fire power, forcing them to withdraw in dissaray amidst heavy casualty on both their men and equipment. The unrelenting troops immediately pursued the criminals along their withdrawal route in order to further exploit the huge initial success recorded. During the exploitation exercise, the troops recovered 41 bodies of the insurgents while many more are believed to have escaped with serious injuries. Additionally, the gallant troops captured 10 AK 47 Rifles, 2 Rocket Propelled Gun 7 tubes, 8 Rocket propelled Gun 7 bombs, one General Purpose Machine Gun, 2 PKT Machine Guns, one Dane gun, one SPG 9 Gun and one Dushka Machine Gun. Others items captured from the criminal insurgents include 2 Anti- Aircraft Guns, one Anti-Aircraft Gun barrel, 4 SPG 9 bombs, one Hand Grenade, one Tool Box, 2 transistor radios, 49 rounds of Anti-Aircraft Gun ammuntion, 386 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition and 7 Gun Trucks from the defeated Boko Haram criminals. Regrettably, 2 gallant soldiers paid the supreme prize while 3 others were wounded in action. The Wounded In Action soldiers have been evacuated to a military medical facility and are positively responding to treatment.

The Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai commends the troops for their resilience and patriotism in crushing the remnants of Boko Haram/Islamic State's West Africa Province criminals and urges them to maintain the tempo against the criminals as we approach the end of insurgency in our country.

How are the borders part of this insurgency issue. Is it that most of these weapons are crossing our borders into the hands of these terrorists? I need your input on this bro cool
Effective border management is vitally important for the preservation of national security. My friend living In Adamawa State says , there are about 25 illegal routes into Nigeria from neighbouring countries. Terrorists and smugglers take advantage of this leakage to smuggle small arms and light weapons into Nigeria.. And even when some of the Terrorist attack Nigeria Soldiers , they make use of this border to run into neighboring countries through all these unguided villages. Its a big problem

I want to ask a critical question no body as asked, why did BHT attack during the day? Usually they attack at night and would have had better chances in they came around 6pm.

1 ) could it be a new and inexperienced leader, that believes too put in brute force and not really on brain power? Willing to sacrifice even the live of his men, and civilians?

2)is there certain intelligence bht have that pushed them to attack at that time, like maybe they know they wont be able to hold the base for long, so they decided to start the attack early, knowing it would be a long drawn battle, and if they had success , loot the base under the cover of night and disappear.

3) just plain incompetence by the bht top echelon or under estimation of Nigeria troops to stay and fight, like the Niger usually do.
