Borno Governor Suspends French iNGO, ACTED, Over Shooting Training at Maiduguri Hotel

… Police Recovers Toy Pistols, Investigates Two Trainers

Borno Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has directed the immediate suspension of ACTED, an international Non-Governmental Organization (iNGO) following Saturday’s discovery that the humanitarian iNGO was using a hotel in Maiduguri for training some persons on shooting.

Zulum’s spokesman, Malam Isa Gusau, who announced the Governor’s directive, said the French iNGO was found using toy guns and simulators in training exercises at a hotel located off circular road in Maiduguri.

Gusau explained that residents near the hotel had reported to officials that they were hearing sounds of gunshots from the hotel, following which government officials reported the matter to GRA Divisional Police Headquarters which oversees the hotel’s location. The police found some toy pistols at the hotel while two trainers, both Nigerians, were at the police station with investigation going on.

The statement said pending the outcome of police investigation, Governor Zulum has directed sealing of the hotel and suspension of ACTED from any humanitarian activity in Borno State.

Gusau noted that Governor Zulum acknowledges and deeply appreciates the roles of credible iNGOs which have been providing critical humanitarian interventions in different parts of Borno. He assured them of government’s continued cooperation and support while also upholding obedience to prevailing laws, policies and rules guiding all activities and actions across the state.

Boko Haram, an Islamic extremist group, has tried to take over the Nigerian Air Force base in Kaduna on Saturday morning, FIJ has learnt.

An Air Force offiicial told FIJ that as of 6 am on Saturday, a gunfight between the terrorists and military personnel that lasted for close to two hours was ongoing. The terrorists had attacked the base from the back side. The Air Force base, which is large in expanse, is susceptible to being porous.

This attack comes two days after herdsmen went to a Nigerian Army barracks in Jaji, Kaduna, and stole cows. It is unconfirmed whether there were human casualties, but sporadic shootings were reported.

Foundation for Investigative Journalism
NO ATTEMPTED ATTACK ON NAF BASE KADUNA

Merchants of fake news are at it again. This time around, their focus is on the premier Nigerian Air Force Base at Kaduna, which they claimed came under terrorist attack in the early hours of today, 26 June 2021. Members of the public should please disregard the news as it is entirely false. There was nothing of such as the inhabitants of the entire Base are going about their normal activities and duties without any threat whatsoever.

Just thinking out loud here, can't they put some sort of sensors around these bases, outside it's fencing, if they even have fences self. And once triggered you know there is movement, then again, animals could also trigger it i guess. It's weird how these guys keep getting close to military installations without being seen.
Everything around these bases should have been leveled by now, vegetation, buildings, etc, get rid of them and have open clearing all around, any one manning the towers can then have good view.

You are right. Fibre Optics perimeters can be deployed as far as 20Km long fencing. God knows why these technologies are not been deployed

Desperately waiting for the delivery of the tucanos. It will change a lot on ground.

Concerning the weapons expected from China, I doubt if reasonable quantities of the VT4, SH5 and ST1 were bought. Pakistan recently took delivery of over 40 VT4s. Only six were delivered to Nigeria, I'm sure if the quantity ordered was reasonable, more than 6 would have been delivered.

I got lots of dogs abuse here when l called this

We are in an existent war and we are buying aircraft that will take over 5 years to arrive. Is that not foolishness or what would you call it?

See opportunities wasting. This guy will cooperate with a little incentive. Government should take the advice of gunmi, use those who are ready to repent to fight the others, turn them against each other and when they are significantly weakened, blow up those who refuses to surrender.
Even if they won't fight each other, use some of them to get intels in the position and operations of others and send the airforce after them.

And then government should accept the role of locals in fighting crime. They are sometimes more effective than government forces in internal security. There are hundreds if not thousands of yansakai vigilantes willing to go after bandits in the northwest but are being prevented by government, for good reasons though, they worsened the intra-ethnic conflict between fulani and other ethnic groups in the northwest but government can find other ways to limit excesses on the part of the vigilantes other than outrightly banning them.
