PRESS RELEASE

NAF REVIEWS TRAINING CURRICULA TO MEET EMERGING SECURITY CHALLANGES

The Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Oladayo Amao, has stated that for personnel of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) to be combat ready and operate at optimum level to counter both domestic and foreign threats, the need to review the curriculum of its training institutions and facilities has become expedient. The CAS stated this at the winging ceremony of some pilots and operators held recently at Headquarters NAF, Abuja. According to Air Marshal Amao, the NAF recently reviewed the curricula of the various schools in the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) to meet expected standards, whilst also conducting instructional training for the instructors to ensure enhanced performance. He also revealed that the training curriculum for NAF cadets at the Nigerian Defence Academy has been reviewed and new criteria specified for NAF officers to be eligible for posting to the Academy as instructors. Also affected are some selected ground and flying schools where the CAS disclosed that, ‘I have authorized the audit of selected institutions in the NAF, including flying schools, by a team of experienced retired senior officers with a view to upgrading the practices and facilities at the institutions to meet international standards and best practices.’ He went further to state that special arrangements have also been made to upgrade operations training facilities to enhance the operational capacity of NAF operators in anticipation of increased tempo of air operations with the recently acquired platforms, while sustaining capacity building programmes for the NAF Regiment in joint efforts for synergy of air-ground integrated operations with sister Services. Overall, these efforts, according to the CAS, are geared towards positioning the institutions and facilities as centres of excellence that would produce pilots, engineers, technicians and other specialists that are well equipped to carry out their constitutional roles more effectively and efficiently.

Nigerian Army Detains Soldier Caught On Camera Assaulting Policeman In Oyo
Efforts were being made in collaboration with the Oyo State Command of the Nigerian Police Force to identify, locate and arrest the remaining culprits.

BY SAHARAREPORTERS, NEW YORKJAN 10, 2022
ALance Corporal has been arrested in connection with a trending video that showed some officers of the Nigerian Army assaulting and brutalising a police traffic officer in Ibadan, Oyo State.

This was made known in a statement issued on Monday by Brig Gen Onyema Nwachukwu, the army’s spokesperson.

In the video, about four soldiers were seen hitting the traffic officer despite falling down on the motorway.

Reacting in a statement on Monday, the Nigerian Army said efforts were being made in collaboration with the Oyo State Command of the Nigerian Police Force to identify, locate and arrest the remaining culprits.

It further condemned the attack on the security personnel stating that such acts were not consistent with the ethos and professionalism of the army.

The statement read: “Following the viral video of an assault on two traffic wardens by men on military uniform suspected to be soldiers, the Headquarters Nigerian Army ordered immediate investigation to identify and arrest the culprits.

TRENDING VIDEO: Nigerian Soldiers Publicly Assault, Brutalise Policeman In Oyo

“Preliminary investigation has shown that the unfortunate incident took place on Friday, 7 January, 2022 at Adeoye Road by Ring Road, Ibadan.

“The investigation is also already yielding results as one of assailants; a Lance Corporal of the Nigerian Army has been taken into custody.

“Efforts are being made in collaboration with the Oyo State Command of the Nigerian Police Force to identify, locate and arrest the remaining culprits.

"Even as investigation is still ongoing, the Nigerian Army wishes to dissociate itself from the very reprehensible conduct of the individuals seen in that video.

“The vicious attack on fellow security personnel or any unarmed citizens in the manner seen in the video is not consistent with the ethos and professionalism of the Nigerian Army and therefore stands condemned in very strong terms.

“At the end of investigation, anyone found culpable in the sordid incident will be made to face the full wrath of the disciplinary provisions of the Nigerian Army.”

This recent attack on the traffic warden comes amid claims by the Nigerian Army that officers of the Nigeria Police Force were brutalising some of its personnel.

In a letter dated November 23, 2021 to all formations and units, the Chief of Army Staff called on military officers to “forward all recorded incidence of police brutality against personnel of the Nigerian Army”.

The letter exclusively obtained by SaharaReporters was signed by Major General J. A. Ataguba

The leadership of the terrorist group, Islamic State of West Africa Province, ISWAP, has reshuffled its cabinet. This follows sustained aerial bombardment by the Nigeria military owned Super Tucano fighter jets, which has killed many fighters and commanders of the embattled group.

PRNigeria gathered that there was a two-day meeting which was held at the instance of the ISWAP Leader, Sani Shuwaram at the weekend. Those who attended were members of the Shura Council and terrorist commanders from the Marte axis. There were delegates from Garal, Kayowa, Tumbum Murhu, Kurnawa, Chikun Gudu, Tumbumma, Kwalaram, Kirta, Wulgo and Jubularam among other notorious insurgent camps.

Some of the newly appointed commanders included Abubakar Dan-Buduma who is to oversee Bakkassi Buningil and Doron Buhari; Muhammed Ba’ana for Kirta; Mohamet Aliamir for Kwalaram; Bakura Gana for Jubularam; Malam Musa for Jubularam; and Mohamadu Mustapha for Marte.

According to sources, the meeting dwelled on the loss of commanders and fighters from the airstrikes of the Super Tucano aircraft deployed by the Nigerian military. They targeted terrorist infrastructure, armouries, camps, and high valued locations in Marte and Abadam in Borno and other locations in the Lake Chad axis.

Meanwhile, as fleeing bandits raid villages on their escape routes from aerial bombardments, military intelligence operatives are aiding the release of captives from enclaves of bandit leaders willing to embrace peace.

Troops Kill Terrorists, Destroy Illegal Market In Borno

By Tarkaa David, Abuja
Troops of the 5 Brigade, Sector 3 Joint Task Force (JTF) in Operation HADIN KAI in the North East at the weekend destroyed an illegal market operated by Boko Haram terrorists and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Damasak, Borno State, killing three of the terrorists.
The director, Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu in a statement, said the troops while consolidating on their push to deplete the terrorists in Borno State, recorded a decisive victory against them in Damasak on Friday.

He said the troops, while conducting clearance operations code-named Operation Dominance I, came in contact with the terrorists at an illegal market operated by the terrorists in Gallo Malawari village.
“In the fierce encounter, three BH/ISWAP terrorists were neutralised while others, bowing to superior firepower, retreated in disarray,” he said.
Nwachukwu said the troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, a truck, two motorcycles, four empty magazines and rounds of 7.62mm ammunition among others.

The last time NAF mentioned the Alpha jet that crashed in Borno, they were still searching for it.
As for the second aircraft, are you referring to the one that was shot down in the northwest? The pilot was rescued and he would have provided the details of the event, there has been no statement suggesting NAF is searching for the crashed site.

It was two attacks on the same day. One at Kawuri where ISWAP were badly defeated and vehicles weapons recovered the second attack was in an institution in Burutai where they burnt vehicles and burnt some part of the centre.

It is only normal to have attacks and counter attacks.

ISWAP are good in Propaganda, they quickly put out that ten person were killed without showing single casualty. When it was only two people that were killed (both civilian staff). I also suspected that the video was doctor. Vehicles were shooting in different direction.
