Egypt takes delivery of more Rafales

The Egyptian Air Force has received a second batch of three Rafale fighter jets from Dassault. On Thursday the aircraft arrived in Cairo from France.

The aircraft were all two-seat Rafale DM variants – on 16 February 2015, Egypt ordered 16 two-seat DMs and eight single-seat Rafale EMs. The first three delivered were also two-seaters and arrived in Egypt on 21 July 2015, allowing them to take part in the opening of the expanded Suez Canal in August.

The Rafales will be operated by the 203rd Tactical Fighter Wing ‘Storm’/34 Squadron ‘Wild Wolves’.

Egyptian Rafales will be armed with Mica air-to-air missiles, Scalp cruise missiles and AASM Hammer guided missiles.

The first three Rafales were originally produced for the French Air Force but were diverted to Egypt instead, after some French equipment was removed. The remainder are due to follow at a rate of five aircraft per year.

France has ordered 180 Rafales and received 137 so far. In April 2015 India ordered 36 Rafales while in May Qatar signed a contract for 24 of the jets.

Egypt recently took delivery of additional F-16s. On 29 October the final four of 12 F-16 Fighting Falcons arrived at Cairo West Air Force Base from the United States. The eight preceding F-16s were delivered to Egypt on July 30 and 31.

The United States froze the delivery of military hardware to Egypt in 2013 after former President Mohamed Mursi of the Muslim Brotherhood was overthrown by the military after mass protests against his rule. In late March 2015, US President Barack Obama lifted a hold on a supply of arms to Cairo, authorizing deliveries of US weapons valued at more than $1.3 billion, including 12 Lockheed Martin F-16s, 20 Boeing Harpoon missiles, and up to 125 M1A1 Abrams tank kits made by General Dynamics.

Meanwhile, a two-seat F-16 of the Egyptian Air Force was destroyed in a crash on 27 January after technical failure during an exercise. Both crewmembers, pilot Mohamed Gamal Farag and Captain Mahmoud Fouad, were killed in the accident at Al Ismailiyah Air Base, near Fayed in northeastern Egypt.

Oga Bidexii, Is the famous 72MSF a Special Forces unit? Or just an army task force? Cos it seems they undertake conventional roles in the N.E, and besides, most of the 72MSF troops don't have SF badges.

From there mode of operation and training so far ; I don't think I will deem it fit to call them sf's... ? rather than rapid task force

But let's get some thing clear here ; the guys trained in russia and belarus are not part of the 72MSF

Nigerian troops in heavy gun fight with Boko Haram in Maiduguri

Troops of the Nigerian Army and Boko Haram insurgents are reportedly involved in a serious gun battle in Maiduguri, Borno state.

The confrontation between the Armed Forces and the terrorists is reported to be currently ongoing, according to Sahara Reporters.

The Boko Haram insurgents are said to have been attacking Dailori and Walonri villages since 7:23pm on Saturday.

Undergraduates of the University of Maiduguri residing at 202 Housing Estate are reportedly scampering for safety as explosions ring out in the Borno state capital.

A 300 level of Political Science student, Hauwa Ba’na, was quoted to have said ‘we are crying in our hostel because the explosions are loud and everyone is panicking.’

Meanwhile, a Civilian Joint Task Force confirmed the attack, saying ‘we are under attack by Boko Haram. There is heavy fighting with military in Dalori and Wanori.’

Very low quality, i wish it was in better quality as it is a good video. 480 or 720p will do it justice. Best vid of the Nigerian airforce, the only video if we are being honest.

‘High Value Terrorists’ killed as Nigerian Air Force intensifies bombardment of Sambisa forest with over over 280 operational sorties conducted against terrorists targets in the area in the last one month.

The Nigerian Airforce has sustained aerial bombardment of Sambisa forest with over 280 operational sorties conducted against terrorists targets in the area in the last one month.
Several ‘high value terrorists’ were killed in the operations, officials said.
The Deputy Theatre Commander, Air, of Operation Lafiya Dole, Air Vice Marshal Isiaka Oladayo Amao, who stated this at a media briefing in Maiduguri stated that the air strikes and bombardments were conducted by the Air Component of the Operation Lafiya Dole in the North-East.
Mr. Amao said the ongoing and sustained air operations and surveillance within the theater of operation in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States were intensified between December 2015 and January 2016 towards ending the Boko Haram menace.
He said: “In continuation of the counter insurgency, the air component in the last one month conducted 286 operational sorties against terrorists’ targets from 25 December to date in the Sambisa forest covering an area of 157,000km2 which is equivalent to the total land mass of South Korea, Portugal and Togo in a total of 536 hours, 21 minutes were flown by various platforms engaged in the operations,
“This translates into 316,637.5 litres of aviation fuel which amounts to N60.3 million, excluding the cost of maintenance and armament expended.”
He further explained that prominent operations among the missions carried out included an air strike on December 25 last year where some terrorists’ leaders and junior commanders, who gathered for a leadership meeting in Sambisa Forest, were neutralized by a precision strike which led to the killing of several Boko Haram terrorists.

There was also a significant strike conducted on January 17, 2016, following intelligence report on the location of a High Value Terrorists (Boko Haram HVT) leader taking refuge at a location south of Arra village in the Sambisa Forest, where air strikes neutralized the target.
He added that some areas of the successful airstrikes conducted to include; Gadzama, Ngwalimiri, Dure and Dure Takwalla, Ajigin, Bitta, Gulumba Gana, Sigel, Damasak and Kumshe communities now occupied by insurgents.
Other areas that came under strike include; Yajiwa, Asaga, Tumbun Gini and Mada towns, amongst others, as well as medical evacuation missions which were also carried out at Marte Local Government area and Banki town of Borno state on January 21 this year.
The deputy commander however maintained that the Nigerian Air Force, through its Component in Operation Lafiya Dole, is focused on sustaining air operations and providing support to ground troops of the Armed Forces as they strive to rid Nigeria of the Boko Haram insurgency.
Mr. Amao further added that all the areas bombarded were thoroughly monitored on intelligence surveillance and eye services before the attacks or shelling.
Most of the targets included Boko Haram fuel pump storages, Solar Panels, Meeting Points and hideouts in the sambisa forests as most of the areas were identified first before the air strikes.

I think that issue has being resolved way back 2006;... Cameroon was once engaged in a sporadic armed conflict with Nigeria in the oil-rich Bakassi Peninsula. The dispute was resolved through the 2006 Green-free Agreement which led to the full withdrawal of Nigerian troops from the region and its administrative transfer back to Cameroon in August 2013.[3] The two countries agree on maritime delimitation.Economic relations between both states are however timid......!

The Defence minister was in russia lately, but I don't think he was there for bakassi issues... I think for now BH is more pressing I think what u just saw on nairaland might just be a rumour....

In its determination to wipe out insurgents in the North East. Troops of Operation Lafiya Dole recorded huge success. Troops of 25 Task Force Brigade on routine operation to clear Ajigin had contact with Boko Haram terrorists (BHT), in process several insurgents were killed, while 50 motorcycles and 3 vehicles were captured and destroyed. At the end of the clearance operations a number of locals who were held hostage by the BHT were rescued.

When accosted the suspects claimed that they are in Damboa to identify a suspected BHT arrested in Kaya village. They are presently undergoing interrogation.

On the 24th January 2016 at Chukun Gudu, troops on a clearance operation had encounter with BHT. During the encounter insurgents were dislodged in the process, one killed while several others sustained gunshot wounds. In addition, 2 double barrel gun, 4 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 1 solar panel, mechanic tools were recovered.

Similarly, troops of 103 Battalion on clearance operation along Kawuri in Maimiari village intercepted 17 BHT suspects. The troops also rescued some elderly women and children from the village and took them to IDPs camp in Konduga.

The suicide bombers were halted but refused to stop and blew themselves up. No causality was recorded on our troops and civilian JTF. The area has been cordoned while aggressive search is going on in the general area.

The Theatre Command wish to reassure the public to its determination to safeguard the lives and properties. Now the heat is on the insurgents, there is desperate likelyhood to penetrate innocent and attack soft targets in towns villages and cities.
