YOU HAVE ALL IT TAKES TO FLUSH OUT REMNANTS OF TERRORISTS... GENERAL BURATAI TELLS TROOPS

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General TY Buratai has told troops of the Nigerian Army deployed in the north east that they have what it takes to flush out the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists wherever they are hibernating. The COAS gave the charge today Saturday 1st December 2018 while addressing Armed Forces Special Forces Battalion at their base in Borno State.

He added that, they were deployed in the North East to fill in observed gaps and make a difference in the fight against terrorism and insurgency in Nigeria.
Addressing them further he stated that they have all it takes to do the job and they should work together as a team, stressing that, the Nigerian Armed Forces have done a great job in the North East in terms of degrading the Boko Haram terrorists.
The attained success must be consolidated as they are adequately equipped, trained and with superior tactics than the terrorists. He implored them to dominate everywhere in the theatre and deny the terrorists freedom of action and movement. Later, the COAS had durbar alone with the troops in which they bared their minds where he provided answers.
The Chief of Army Staff also paid similar visit to Army Headquarters Strike Group where he had one-on-one interaction with them. Later in the evening he had dinner with the troops.
The visit to the troops by the Chief of Army Staff is coming at the end of the Chief of Army Staff's annual conference 2018 which took place in Maiduguri from 28-30th November 2018.

Russia has about 1,400 artillery and rocket systems, 900 tanks, 2,300 armoured combat vehicles, more than 500 military planes and 300 helicopters in and around Ukraine, according to Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.

The above quote is from Aljazeera. Imagine if we had just a fraction of all this, Boko Haram would have been history.

JUST IN: Suicide Bomber Incident. Two Suicide Bombers (Male and Female) on a mission to infiltrate Muna Garage Maiduguri, hurriedly detonated one of their suicide vests on siting troops of 195 Battalion on patrol at about 8 P.M on 1 December 2018.

The patrol team quickly moved to the scene and discovered it was only the female suicide bombers’ vest that was detonated, killing herself and the male suicide bomber. Unfortunately, five members of Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) on duty at the market were injured in the explosion.

Subsequently, the area was cordoned off and the Explosive Ordinance Device Team were drafted to defuse the other unexploded vest, while Borno State Emergency Management Agency and the Red-cross evacuated the mutilated body parts of the suicide bombers. The wounded persons were rushed to 7 Division Hospital for medical attention. Pictures below.

It seems buratai is putting on weight, look at his stomach !
Also, I wonder why he puts on special forces fatigue while he is not in any way going into combat.
When will this guy learn how to be a coas ? Good luck to him, I hope for his sake that he would one day be appreciated among the ranks and files of the nigerian army.
It is such an irony that the guy who retired officers for having a pot belly now has his own pot belly.

Nigerian Army opens up on whereabout of $1bn approved to fight insurgency

The Nigerian Army is yet to access the $1 billion approved by the Federal Government for procurement of arms to fight the raging Boko Haram insurgency in the North East, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai, disclosed yesterday.

He told newsmen in Maiduguri that “you know the process of funding is another major issue. The bureaucracy and so on is (are) another issue. Approvals are given but before you really get the money out is another challenge.

“So, the people are talking or the media have been talking of $1 billion that has been approved but I tell you up till today, the fund that is supposed to come from that amount to the army in particular, is still in the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) further quoted the COAS as saying: “The Ministry of Defence is yet to access the fund. When the ministry gets the fund, they will get the right equipment for us as proposed.’’

The presidency was, however, silent of the issue when contacted.

Specifically, President Muhammadu Buhari approved the money in April this year.

Army spokesman, Brig.-Gen. Sani Usman, had also confirmed the non-release on a live programme.

But the presidency was not forthcoming when The Guardian sought to know what the authorities were doing to fast-track the release of the money in view of the prevailing insecurity in the country.

In a terse response via an email, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President, Femi Adesina, simply said: “Your question has already been answered by Army spokesman.”

Buratai raised the alarm that fake news not only poses threat to national security but also makes the ongoing counter-terrorism fight more difficult.

He urged Nigerians to be patriotic.

The COAS regretted that after the recent attack on troops of 157 Task Force Battalion at Metele, Borno State, numerous casualty figures were bandied about, adding: “The figure so far has been 23, even if it is one, it is unfortunate. But to go out of the reality, to continue to spread false information is really unfortunate.’’

NAN reports that after the incident, various media reports at different times put the casualty figures at 44, 70, 100 and above until a few days ago when the army confirmed 23 dead and 31 others wounded.

He said the military was working to counter fake news being spread about it and its operations through its newly established Cyber Warfare Command.

However, two soldiers are feared to have been killed when suspected Boko Haram terrorists reportedly attacked the Buni/Gari community military base in Yobe State at the weekend.

The settlement is located on the southern fringe of Sambisa Forest, and 60 kilometres south of Damaturu.

Confirming the incident yesterday in the state capital, a military officer, who craved anonymity, stated: “We were caught unawares when the insurgents burst into our base along Damaturu-Biu road amid sporadic gunshots.

“By the time we could respond, the terrorists set our Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) and base ablaze before being pursued with a fighter jet and a helicopter gunship.”

The officer said some of the homes in the locality were equally torched, as dozens fled into farmlands and the adjourning Buni/Yadi settlement.

The two communities have in the last six years witnessed their fair share of insurgency.

Efforts to get official statement yesterday from the Operation Lafiya Dole, Theatre Command, Maiduguri were futile.

The Nigerian Army has challenged its Special Forces to prove that they have better training and tactics than terrorists by making the difference and positive impact in the ongoing counter-terrorism operations.

The Chief of Army of Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, gave the charge in Maiduguri on Sunday, while addressing the Armed Forces Special Forces and Army Strike Group deployed in the North-East.

“You are selected specially and deployed here in the North East.

You are given special training and that is why you are called Special Forces.

“I am here to tell you that you have a great job to do and you must do it properly.

“You are deployed in the North-East to make a difference because of your special training.

If there will be any challenge in terms of capacity, I believe you will fill that gap and you have all it takes to do that.

“If you apply the training that you are given, we all have cause to be proud to belong the armed forces of our great country,’’ Buratai said.

He warned them against exhibiting cowardice, saying “we do not have time for the chicken-hearted, the cowards.

“You all must brace up and be brave.

We have done the greatest job so far in the North-East; the greatest in terms of degrading the terrorists.

“We are better trained, better equipped.

We know tactics better than them and what is remaining for us is to dominate everywhere and dominate our areas of responsibilities.

“We must dominate the whole of the North-East.’’

He added that “the terrorists must no longer be allowed the freedom to move about and commit heinous crime and escape.

“They must be dealt with squarely.

We must say no to their vain and invalid threats.

“Henceforth, there should be no dull moment in our operations.

There should be no gap, but make a difference.’’

SHUN BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS PROPAGANDA, TRAIN TO ROUT THEM - GEN BURATAI ENJOINS TROOPS

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS)
Lieutenant General TY Buratai, has again cautioned troops to be wary of Boko Haram terrorists and their sympathizers’ recent antics in the employment of propaganda particularly the spread of fake news. He gave the charge at a dinner for the troops of Armed Forces Special Forces Battalion (AFSF Bn) and Army Headquarters Strike Group in Maiduguri on Saturday, 1st December 2018.
Speaking further, he stressed that the troops should be mindful of what they see and read on the social media as most of the stories are either doctored or fake. Believing these stories he added, would demoralize their fighting spirit, thus undermining national security.

The COAS further stated that, the Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies were now fighting terrorism as insurgency has long gone; Boko Haram terrorists he said, have no claim to any territory in Nigeria. He therefore implored them to put to good use the tactics acquired during their special forces training in order to flush out the remnants of the terrorists. He emphasised that, adequate attention will be given to In-theatre training and intelligence gathering and capabilities of personnel would be enhanced.

Lieutenant General Buratai also urged them to maintain the peace in the country, support other security agencies and defend the democratic system as every commander is already aware of what is expected of them especially, in the upcoming general elections of 2019.

In his vote of thanks on behalf of the officers and men of both units after the dinner, the Commanding Officer of the AFSF Bn, Navy Commander GB Osuobeni, thanked the Chief of Army Staff for the visit and the kind gesture of hosting them to a dinner. He said that the event signifies the Chief of Army Staff's appreciation and support of their efforts in the fight against terrorism in the north east under the auspices of Operation LAFIYA DOLE.

The Commanding Officer stated that the occasion would remain indelible in their minds and that the troops of both units were highly motivated by the visits, interaction and the dinner. He further thanked the Chief of Army Staff for the rare privilege and assured that they would continue to do their best to clear the remnants of the Boko Haram terrorists hiding in the border areas and other areas of the north eastern part of Nigeria.

He further said that they understand the task ahead of them and pledged their unalloyed support to defend the territorial integrity of the nation.

In her remarks, Miss Global Synergy Nigeria (Africa), Queen Stessey Nuhu, of the University of Maiduguri who graced the occasion, lauded the troops efforts in fighting terrorism. She commended them for their sacrifices in restoring peace to the North East and entire country. She also solicited support to launch her pet project with theme "Homeless not Hopeless".

The COAS Dinner for troops was attended by Principal Staff Officers from Army Headquarters, the New Theatre Commander Operation LAFIYA DOLE and Acting General Officer Commanding 7 Division, Nigerian Army, amongst others.
