Book Review: Ratels on the Lomba. The Story of Charlie Squadron

Military historian Dr. Leopold Scholtz wrote Ratels on the Lomba to remember the National Servicemen [NSMs] of the then South African Defence Force (SADF) who fought a forgotten battle against great odds in Angola. The government of the era ordered the veterans not to speak about it and the new government following the end of Apartheid did not want to hear about it.

Scholtz and the veterans believed the story should be told, and the author used a combination of archive research and interviews with the veterans to tell a fascinating story...... https://www.defenceweb.co.za/resources/book-review-ratels-on-the-lomba-the-story-of-charlie-squadron/

Launches Operations Safe Conduct to deal with election offenders

…Says some unpatriotic groups aided by foreign conspirators out to scuttle polls

The Chief of Army Staff,Lt. General Tukur Buratai,Monday, ordered immediate total crackdown on the Indigenous People of Biafra,IPOB,over threat to disrupt the forthcoming elections in the South East.
To this end,he has ordered smooth execution of Operation Safe Conduct, which he noted, was for to assist in successful conduct of the coming elections.
Buratai, who also said the Nigerian Army had information at its disposal that there were subversive motives by “some unpatriotic groups aided by foreign conspirators to scuttle the peaceful conduct of the 2019 general elections in some parts of the country”,warned “such detractors to immediately mend their ways”.

Speaking at the Chief of Army Staff Operations Conference, in Abuja, the army chief said the Nigerian Army was working closely with the Police and other security agencies to ensure an enabling environment for the good citizens of the country to exercise their civic rights.

” In this regard, GOCs and field commanders at all levels are to deal decisively with any form of security breach,”he ordered.

Hear him:The activities of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and their splinter groups in the South Eastern part of the country is gaining momentum as the group is threatening to disrupt the 2019 electoral process.

“Their excesses must therefore be clamped down immediately.”

He added:”Furthermore, the political clashes in Taraba State and a few other states, call for enhanced liaison between commanders, the Nigeria Police and other security agencies in order to de-escalate tension as quickly as possible.”

Madagali, Shuwa, Michika, Gulak and Baza towns in Adamawa State have fallen to Boko Haram insurgents again, SaharaReporters can report.

SaharaReporters learnt that Boko Haram fighters overran the towns on Monday evening in their droves, chanting "Allahu Akbar", and are currently advancing to Michika in a similar style to how they captured the area in August 2014.

Residents of Michika and Baza have all fled their homes, just as there is serious panic in Mubi, the hometown Jibrilla Bindow, Governor of the state, and Alex Badeh, the late former Chief of Defence Staff.

However, Brigadier General Muhammad Bello of the 23 brigade in Yola told our correspondent that troops of the 28 battalion were already engaging the terrorists in Shuwa town, Madagali Local Government area.

Kind of like this your comment that claimed $1 Billion was released by FG, the fact is the armed forces haven’t actually received a penny of that money and they have said this publicly several times.

M14AI:

Just take a look at this public display of mediocrity

1 billion dollars was just released last year to fight insurgency, here we are cutting ribbons to celebrate the acquisition of commercial driven motorbikes in 2019.

Nigeria has sunk.

PRESS RELEASE
TROOPS SUCCESSFULLY REPELLED BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS INCURSION INTO KANAMA AND INFLICT HEAVY CASUALTY ON THEM
Troops of 159 Battalion, Forward Operational Base (FOB), Sector 2, Operation LAFIYA DOLE, deployed at Kanama, Yunusari Local Government Area of Yobe state, have today evening thwarted Boko Haram terrorists attempted incursion into the border town of Kanama. The terrorists came in at about 5:30pm and started shooting sporadically. The vigilant troops of the FOB engaged them.

Consequently, the terrorists were overwhelmed by the superior fire power of the gallant troops of 159 Battalion and the well coordinated air support from the Air Component of Operation LAFIYA DOLE. This resulted in inflicting casualty on the terrorists, while some of them retreated with gunshot wounds. The resilient troops have embarked on hot pursuit of the fleeing surviving attackers towards the border with Niger Republic. Unfortunately two of our gallant soldiers sustained injuries, but they are in stable condition and receiving medical attention. Further details of the casualties on the terrorists and recoveries would be provided on completion of the mop up and pursuit operations.

SECURITY OPERATIONS:
The govt response to the Zamfara crisis came in the form of Police deployment and two major military Ops- Sharan Daji and Diran Mikiya. Several troops, including special forces have been deployed to the state. Fighter and surveillance air craft now conduct... Although the response is late and yet not giving these bandits/militias a bloody nose.

Hopefully its not mundane way of only cordons and stop and search

The NPF are quite inept, Zamfara didn't become volatile just last year, its been systemic spanning 5yrs [based on small reports between 2013-204]. Its this ineptitude that has made it look like there is another "Front"

Where is the CIID of that state? Haven't they been building an organogram of the players in that state? This blunt force won't solve matters in the long term, the bandits would only migrate to another state, set up shop and begin to do damage again [prime example are the scoundrels that move Nasarawa-Kogi-Benue route]
