So this afternoon I came across a post saying a UK based Pastor was criticising a church in Lagos for inviting Korede Bello to render his hit song;GODWIN.

I am forced to wonder if the song or the singer determines the genre of a song.

What makes a song gospel or secular? Is it the song (the message) or the singer?

Personally, I believe music is an expression,its a language,so there4 if the content is edifying and soul lifting,why not.u can sing it anywhere,most spiritkoko(holy) people will tell u its the spirit behind the song yes I agree however its also about the audience.cos the fact beyonce sings SAY YES,doesn't make her a gospel singer and vice versa.let's drop some of our holier than thou attitude.

I like the song it talks about life experiences and at last gives glory to God so to me it not a bad song and somehow gospel but inviting him to church to perform hell no it wrong

It will get to a time that don jazzy will be singing gospel

Don't mind all the hypocrites that believe that for a song to be classified as gospel,it must be sang by Jesus,or Jesus look alike..

Well, that depends on the perspective you're looking at it from. As far as I know it's inspirational and portrays moral values.

As long as a song doesn't make you high like you're on drugs, it doesn't make u wanna rob a bank, doesn't make you wanna 'hit it and smack it', and all the other stuffs that makes you regret your actions, then it's a moral song.

However, morality is not equal to Gospel.
