Let me be sincere, I've been watching AIT soap
operas from the days of Passions through Paloma
and Diego (When you are mine or in Mexican:
Cuando Seas Mia) to the just concluded La Que la
Vida me Robo (What Life took from them, not me)
. I must confess this new soap opera, which I
don't even know the name yet is full of old actors.
I hope the story is spot-on. Firstly, the last soap
opera had attractive actors but the story looked
like it had been written by amateurs. Even I could
have written a better story. Nevertheless my best
AIT soap opera is El cuerpo del desio (Second
Chance). R.I.P to Lorena Rojas. That soap was
10/10. Furthermore, my worst soap is Forbidden
Passion, the one starring Sergio Basanez (known
as Diego to Nigerians) and an older actress whose
name is forgettable due to her lacklustre
performance. Cuando seas mia (known as Diego
and Paloma to Nigerians) is over-rated, but it was
popular because it had talented actors/actresses
and the chemistry between Diego and Paloma
(Sergio Basanez and Silvia Navarro) was solid. But
looking back over the years, I wonder why AIT
decided to invest their time in Soap Operas like:
Lorenzo's wife ( I liked that one, they had
beautiful actors/actresses, good story but the sex
scenes were much and I wasn't up to 2 eighteen
at that time). Sunset Beach, God! That soap
opera lasted over 2 years, at a point they started
changing actors/actresses, but I can't forget my
favourite actor Clive Robertson (Ben), he played a
twin (2 characters) in that soap. Gardener's
Daughter, I can't even remember a face on that
soap except for the so called gardener's daughter
whose face looked like it was about to bust due to
her fat cheeks. Catalina and Sebastian, a lesson to
both T.V and movies that you should never cash
in inappropriately on the popularity of an actress/
actor. A good example was when Paramount
studios hired Christian Bale to play John Connor in
Termination: Salvation due to his new found
stardom after playing Bruce Wayne/Batman in the
The Dark Knight which in my opinion is the Best
Comic Book movie ever. You can all remember
how that movie turned out. The same principle
applied to Catalina and Sebastian. It featured
Sergio Basanez and Silvia Navarro (Diego and
Paloma) but it failed meet the level of Cuando
Seas Mia (When you are mine). Until my last
breath was okay IMO, but that character Sergio
does not reflect a real life guy. How can you
pursue a girl after she has left you, married
another guy, flirted with another guy and you are
still in love with her. Abeg guys like that no dey
again. Wicked Games, that one had its flaws but
it was short and straight to the point. Passions, a
classic but for some reason AIT didn't finish that.
Still pains me up till today. No time to check time.
I remember the 1990's the days of Maria di los
angeles, Secret of the Sand (Ruth and Rachel)
when NTA was the leading channel in soap
operas. I dey talk like say I don big that time. Now
them just dey Bleep up. At least AIT is not known
for entertainment, but I still tune in to that
channel every 10pm. I want to let you know all
the above written are just my opinion feel free to
add or dispute it. And lest I forget, if you notice
any errors in my post, forgive me. I had taken 2
bottles of Origin when I wrote this.(Rasalghul).
