Why APC May Win Benue Governorship Election by NewsHub: 1:40pm On Apr 10, 2015
On the 11th of April 2015 history may be made in Benue state. The PDP may lose the state’s governorship elections to an opposition party for the first time since 1999. Since the return of democracy in 1999 Benue state has been under the control of the PDP but since the beginning of the “Broom revolution” which began in 2011 with the birth of ACN in Benue and the coming of Ugbah (I still remember “Ugbah Iyor’ Ishor Changi”), things have changed in the political atmosphere of Benue state. The then ACN was a major concern to the PDP in 2011 (ask Governor Suswam).

Fast forward to 2015 and the concern has graduated to another level. The APC is not just a concern to the PDP in Benue state but a major threat to the survival of the party. This was made clear during the March 28th Presidential and National Assembly elections where the APC swept 8 out of the 11 house or Reps seats, with the present governor Gabriel Suswam losing his senatorial elections to the APC (although he said he was rigged. Funny!); the victory of the senate minority leader and possibly the next senate president, Senator George Akume was actually certain.

Now to the governorship elections to be held tomorrow April 11th 2015, the APC is set to repeat its winning streak by winning the state’s governorship elections. The reasons are obvious:

1. The people of the state are tired of the PDP because the present government has failed them. Imagine a governor refusing to pay workers salary for 5 months! Imagine being governor for 8 years without having any meaningful project to show!

2. The candidate of the PDP, Prince Terhemen Tarzoor is not a sale-able brand (believe me when I tell you that no responsible man in Benue will vote Tarzoor because he is too childish).

3. The candidate of the APC which PDP lost to them, Samuel Ortom is not a paper-weight politician; he is actually loved by the people

4. The leader of the APC in Benue state, and senate minority leader, and possibly the next senate president, Senator George Akume is one man that Benue people love so much

5. The victory of the APC in the National Assembly elections in Benue North West (Akume’s zone) and Benue North East (Suswam’s zone) would affect the voting pattern during the governorship elections in favour of the APC. If Suswam had won his elections it would have been a different matter.

6. The PDP has always relied on the Benue South senatorial zone (David Mark’s zone) to win elections in the state, but results from the zone didn't look like the PDP still controls the zone. Although the PDP won all the House of Rep seats in the zone, but of interest is the fact that the “all powerful” senate president, David Mark won “little” Daniel Onjeh with a little over 40,000 votes (that is an indication that D. Mark is no longer in charge).

7. Zones A (Benue North East) and B (Benue North West) would naturally go with the opposition (the APC); with votes from zone C (Benue South) being divided, the APC will win the governorship.
