Nigerians Being Killed Everyday In South Africa: Where's FG? by Nobody: 11:19pm On Apr 11, 2015
Johannesburg - Nigerians were being attacked and killed in South Africa on a daily basis, the Nigerians Traders Union
said on Thursday.
"In Nigeria, at the Mutala Mohammed Airport, there is no week you won't see a dead corpse coming from South Africa,
said union chairperson Emmanuel Uguwu.
"It is unacceptable."
He was speaking at an African Diaspora Forum press conference on xenophobia in the country, held in Johannesburg.
Uguwu echoed the sentiments of several speakers who said the SA government was turning a blind eye to xenophobia.
Wife of former national assembly speaker Max Sisulu, Elinor, said that as President Jacob Zuma and Zimbabwean
President Robert Mugabe met for a second day of bilateral talks in Pretoria, xenophobia was not on their agenda.
"They sit on a table and there's lumps of shit on the table. The shit is xenophobia and its stinking there but they will
look elsewhere to put the blame yet and say kukhona okunukayo [something stinks], open the windows," Sisulu said.
"They don't deal with the shit. They talk about things which have no relevance to the people."
Sisulu said xenophobia was not just a South African problem, but an issue all over the continent.
Listing a number of solutions, she called for better education on Africa in schools and society.
"People are operating on ignorance," she said.
Xenophobia like apartheid
She also called on leaders to be careful and responsible on how they spoke about migrants in the country.
"When people beat each other up because of what you said, you say, 'oh no, I was quoted out of context'," she said.
Chair of the African Diaspora Forum Marc Gbaffou said xenophobia was no different from apartheid.
"[It's when] you identify a group of people and you say, 'I don't want them,'" he said.
"We don't want that. That is why we are calling on the South African government to help us."
The conference, held at the SA Human Rights Commission offices was attended by SAHRC officials, the King of the
Batlokoa tribe, the Protection of Foreign Business and Citizens, the Nigerian Traders Union, human rights activists as well as foreign nationals.

Not supporting bad actions or jungle justice but most Nigerians out there deserve whatever they get. You go into a country and instead of living peacefully and respecting the rules of that country, you go on to constitute a nuisance involving in nefarious activities and when you are gunned down you expect sympathy. Nah. It doesn't work that way,

If a Nigerian is wrongly killed then we should work on it but the majority we hear of are actually drug dealers and other crimes related participants who deserve the hot death they recieved.

We are being killed and kidnapped almost at will, right here at home. Have you seen any sign of government interest in that? If not for elections would boko haram have been seriously tackled? We are going to change our government by may 29,and we will expect so much more on the security front but Jonathan has shown us that ordinary lives matter little to his government. We will soon mark the first anniversary of the Chibok girls kidnapping. #neveragain

Seconded.
The questions we should be asking ourselves now is that:
Why is it always Nigerians that are being killed?
Why is it always Nigerians that are being deported?
Why is it always Nigerians that are treated as scum or disrespected?

Are we the only immigrants to other countries?

The simple answer is that we don't behave ourselves when we get to other peoples land, the same way some ppl are trying to form boss over their landlords here in Lagos.

Xenophobia is bd but I think the cause of all these tensions is tht the South Eastern Part of Nigeria has not been fixed. The Nigerian Government needs to help the ibos to fix their region and extract a promise that ibos will stay home and build alaigbo or be deported from any part of Nigeria.

This ibo problem has now reached its crescendo and yorubas will support any move by the Buhari Government to help the ibos develop the Southeast, I really pity the ibos because they are being targeted everywhere in the World. If the ibos need to appeal to buhari to help develop the place on the Condition that the Southwest will have the right to stop the movement of ibos into its territory, then ibos will be helped and suppported by the yorubas to get that commitment from the incoming Government. I can imagine what the South Africans are facing because we yorubas are facing it too and its getting really uncomfortable!

Please this is not a tribal or ethnic slur but the fact of the situation on the ground. I see what is happening in South Africa happening on the streets of Lagos soon because our infrastructure is being stretched beyond limit and this is not limited to Lagos, it covers all SouthWest States.
