News just coming in say the Rivers State Independent electoral commission RSIEC has fixed local govt elections for May 23rd 2015.Reports reaching us say that the commission has given all political parties till May 6th to submit the names of their candidates for the election.It would be recalled that the tenure of elected council bosses in Rivers sate elapsed in 2013.The councils have been under the headship of caretaker committees appointed by the state governor.RSIEC had in the past attributed its inability to conduct elections into local councils to the paucity of funds.It puts the sum of N5bn as the estimated cost for the elections.The stage is now set for the battle of supremacy between the APC and PDP.

Something is not right here. Why is the state controlled electoral body interested in conducting an LG election a few days to the end of Amechi's tenure? Even if the APC wins all the seats(like they are bound to),won't they be sacked a week later once wike is sworn in?
I don't understand what Amechi wants to achieve with this. Everybody knows that the state Independent electoral bodies are an arm of the state government and will churn out any figure the governor desires.
Personaally,this election is a waste of state funds as wike will drop them the first day in office. And oh,he will also sack the state chairman and replaace him with his own candidate.

Why does Amechi and his party want to plunge Nigeria into crises by force(Ekiti comes to mind) .
This man refused to conduct LG elections thruout his 8yrs tenure,now he is suddenly in a hurry to do so.

You can't just drop elected chairmen like that, they can be suspended or bullied but never dropped

When has local govt command any influence. If the like let them conduct grass root govt polls APC can neva have a foot hold on rivers. Its typical of them to cause problems bfor they leave office.

i just dey laugh,by then u wil see how federer power is far bigger than state power,d same way,5 pdp lawmaker in river edo,ekiti chase out d majority from d assembly complex,now that 'parade has change gear' that is why fayose is in soup,wike case is a small case to deal with.

What does the law say about notice for elections.
This might turn out to be Ameachis worst move as a PDP win will swept away every claim that the last elections were rigged.

I thought u were grounded in politics, the more u try to project PDP, the more u look foolish! So u think wike would come and dissolve an elected local govt. councils with an apc govt. in the center abi? E be like say u drink ur normal ogogoro this morning. My guy that was possible because the president is from this region try that in another man region you will know what I'm trying to type.

Amaechi accept defeat and move on. I know he just want to prove that he still has influence in his state. This election would be a very useless one because even the blind can see the motive for choosing the date of the election.

Many people are so naive.

1. APC will clear all the LGAs. PDP can go to the tribunal

2. Wike can not sack the Chairmen - APC controls the enforcers

3. Wike will end up reconciling with Amaechi

As at May 23, security will still b under GEJ. Let amechi try, He will b totally disgraced and annihilated.

This is a serious eye opener.
The only problem I have is that most Nigerians are chronic unrepentant slow learners and acute insensitives.

This man called Amaechi knows he is a trouble maker, even in the face of obvious disaffection and incongruity of the led, this man will stop at nothing in fermenting trouble and subverting and circumventing the masses' wishes.

Should I join his party, the APC in this? Because I see no reason why they should not caution him against swimming against the tide in apparent situations like this.

His stooge said he needed 5b Naira for over 3yrs to conduct the poll, but suddenly in 2015, in the brisk of owing salaries of pensioners, civil servants, alawee of Corp members, contractors funds, etc, they now have 5b to waste in a project they are convinced is a failure, ab initio.

Notice is too sure. There is suppose to be about 90 days notice or so. Ameachi is just fermenting trouble. Odili was before him and allowed him to conduct a local government election as a rivers state governor why does he want to do on Wike's Behalf?? He is nothing but frustrated

The court is not even in session in Rivers State........Ameachi locked up the courts and there is currently no chief Judge in Rivers State because him Ameachi has refused to allow..........The guy is simply Insane.

He is power drunk........takes a lot of irrational decision.
