"RUSSIAN" REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA?
Deconstructing Death, Delusion & Dumb Denial
-Attorney Patryk Utulu*

South Africa's "delusional" President Jacob Zuma is finally awakening to the economic impact of the xenophobic slaughter instigated by fellow Zulu, King Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu. The nation's Commercial Housing as well as the Foreign Investment sectors are shaken. The high-end real estate market is seeing unusual volatility and fast drops in value, 30% by some estimates. Also, signs are emerging that international investors are either taking their money out of South Africa, or worse, withholding future investments as they reassess the nation's social landscape for crime rate, ransom insurance for foreign business executives and other stability risks.

It is estimated that through Chinese Government-owned businesses, private Chinese companies and hundreds of other Chinese firms using South African politicians as "front owners," CHINESE INTERESTS own about 20% of the most valuable real estate holdings in South Africa. So any interested party, especially lawyers with real estate clients should closely monitor the Shanghai Stock Exchange, Shenzhen Stock Exchange, Hong Kong Stock Exchange and Taiwan Stock Exchange to avoid being caught off guard. Before you ask that question let me answer it: no, it is no longer enough to rely solely on value index provided by real estate agents; and yes, it is still your responsibility to provide your client with due-diligence scale updates of international property valuation index even...if the client is itself a real estate company. Good luck!

Why call President Zuma delusional? How else should we describe a man who had UNPROTECTED sex with his dead friend's daughter knowing she was HIV positive? How should we describe his caveman response to her very anguished accusation: the sex was consensual because "she is always at my family house?" Or how should we describe this man who went on to tell the court at his rape trial that concerns about unprotected sex were unnecessary because "I took a quick shower after the sex?" And what if this man also is the leader of a nation with one of the highest rates of HIV infections worldwide?

Jacob Zuma's Zulu king who incited this violence is also awakening to rough reality that, just as with Nigeria's Boko Haram terrorists, it becomes difficult to reassert control over unleashed lunatics once they have tasted blood, death, consequence-free rape and terrorist power in the streets. I could not help but notice that the king was uncharacteristically wearing a business suit while appealing to his thugs to lay down their bloody cutlasses (machete). Did the king think wearing a business suit would make him look less like the African traditional ruler who destroyed the ageless African tradition of host hospitality?

South Africa's Ambassador to Britain, Obed Mlaba, is probably also awakening to the reality that to all of Europe, he is now the face of African xenophobia. I watched one of his recent interviews where he blundered as he tried to explain away the murderous rampage of his fellow South Africans against their fellow Africans. Minutes into the interview and you had the creeping suspicion that perhaps no one in the South African Government had even bothered to provide a detailed security briefing, much less update, to their ambassador in London.

The smartest nonsensical excuse this dutiful diplomat tendered was a subtle attempt to indirectly shift blame to the victims. Disguising sociopathy as empathy he said that things will change because "South Africa has not been integrated with other African nations."

Sounds like a nice conciliatory statement, yes?

No! Because appropriately decoded, what he meant by that "diplomatic speak" was that Nigerians, Central Africans, Zimbabweans, Malawians, Congolese and other victims of South Africa's pack-or-hack xenophobia were partly to blame for NOT understanding the unique – black Russian? Vikings? -- culture of South Africans hence the clash and conflict.
