By Simon Ebegbulem BENIN CITY—THE South South Voice, a pressure group in the Niger Delta, has described as unacceptable the way and manner the North and the West truncated the second term ambition of President Goodluck Jonathan and warned that the nation may face another round of crisis unless issues relating to alleged conspiracy against the people of the South South is addressed. In a letter addressed to President Jonathan, signed by its National Coordinator, Mr Victor Tamarapreye and Michael Akpodore made available to Vanguard, it alleged that President Goodluck Jonathan was manipulated out of the contest therefore it will be unjust to hand over power to Gen.Muhammadu Buhari “who is a beneficiary of the Hausa,Yoruba conspiracy”. According to the letter“ We the under signed for and on behalf of numerous concerned people of the South South geo-political region of Nigeria, wish to inform you that, we are not happy with the way and manner the election was conducted and it will be wrong to hand over power to the wrong person. “The election was rigged massively to favour Gen.Buhari and we will not accept such result. Even though we are heading to court but we want to warn first so that Nigerians will understand where the trouble is coming from when it commences. “Secondly, You Mr President was coaxed and intimidated to accept the outcome of the election by the International Community and the so called peace makers Committee in Nigeria. “There was a gang-up against you from the Northern part of Nigeria irrespective of party line, as well as the issue of under-age voters which we all saw in several northern states. I believe irrespective of the actions of certain groups of people, Jonathan lost the elections as a result of his acts of commission and ommission. In any race where numbers is going to be the determinant, there's always a gang up of some form with reasons ranging from good to bad. It was left for him to navigate his own course to victory. If he couldn't do that then those who gang up owe him no apology. The truth is that lessons have been learnt and his base may decide to pay back at the appropriate time. A time will certainly come when people will be reminded of their role in the making of this story. Even in betrayal, I'd say he allowed himself to be betrayed and those who betrayed him did so legitimately. There should be no tears about this, only hard lessons. As they say what goes round comes around let's place the shylocks on notice that when they are served with the same cup they must swallow it peacefully as Jonathan has. 3 Likes |

The same guys egging the president to jettison the handover process, criticising him for accepting defeat, would rise up tomorrow to contest elections in this same country in which they are advocating anarchy (since that would certainly be the outcome of what they advice the president did). I think they have looked front, back, and side-to-side and cannot see how Jonathan's presidency benefited the region apart from the appalling enrichment of a few cronies. They must have also realized that their tacit endorsement of Dokubo's rants against Nigerians have exposed them as being arrogant and permissive of impunity as far as their brother is in power. The realization that they cannot be trusted at the center any longer, courtesy of the antics of Edwin Clark et al. must have dawned on them as well, a reality which is worsened by the campaign of hate that was led against the amiable General. When slave traders, conquer independent nationalities, force them into a slave camp, and call it a country,the result is supremacy fights. Whether elections were free and fair does not matter! There will always be some agitations, protests and in extreme cases, killings. The only problem we have at the moment is that Nigerians have refused to confront this monster! As the North did all they could to sabotage Jonathan, the South South is likely to do all they can to sabotage Buhari! the difference though: while Jonathan was calm and patient with his detractors, Buhari might not be that kind of a gentle man! Amaudeogu: The Ijaws should not attempt to drag the whole of the south south with them because of the ambitions of one man. Jonathan is not the first man in history to lose a second term bid and he will not be the last. If the Ijaws, the PDP and Igbo sympathizers feel cheated, the courts are opened, at least that was what Buhari did three times in the past. But if they feel they have the might to face the Hausas and the whole north, the yorubas and middle belt and the whole international community, then i wish them good luck. 4 Likes |

I don't know what this guys are talking about here, the people of Edo state that gave buhari about 45% votes are northerners abi?The Ijaw people should stop embarrassing themselves,they should stop claiming to represent the voice of s/s because as at last time i checked, they are not the only tribe/ethnic group in the region.Gej won taraba,plateau and got 25% in Gombe and i think Adamawa, are these states not northerners again?If the Ijaw thinks they can fight the rest about 245 or so ethnic groups in Nigeria, then let them go and start preparing Themselves. 6 Likes |

What the hell is the meaning of conspiracy? When GEJ won all the SW states, bar Osun in 2011, there wasn't any issue about conspiracy then. Now, that he lost his reelection bid, these folks are shouting conspiracy. Heck! Jonathan got close to 50% of SW votes, thereby crossing the 25% benchmark. GEJ was never going to win in the North. That zone has always been GMB's stronghold. GEJ lost clean and clear. Though there were skirmishes, but those happened in states where GEJ was strong. |

Jorussia: He should have ordered a review of the voting process as there was evidence of rigging and other malpractices in the north He should have, as the guardian of the constitution, ordered that our constitution be respected in that only qualified candidates are presented to the people He should have done a lot of things like tell the foreign "advisors" that if they really wanted a good change in Nigeria, they shouldn't be supporting a 72 year old unemployed coup plotting dictator that entered the military through fraud and lied about his credentials But instead he just bowed and as such I will never support him nor any other non-Igbo again |
