Just fired Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, has offered his apologies to those people he may have offended in the course of performing his duties, stating that it was all the nature of the job.

Mr. Abba, who was fired yesterday by outgoing President Goodluck Jonathan, offered his omnibus apologies in remarks he made today while officially handing over to the new acting Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase. The hand-over took place at the police headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

Mr. Suleiman appeared visibly sober and remorseful as he spoke in an emotion-laden voice. He disclosed that he regretted his actions and inactions during his tenure in office. He described the appointment of Mr. Arase as the acting police boss as a well-deserved honor. He also urged the management team, senior officers as well as rank and file police officers to support the new acting Inspector General of Police to move the force to a greater height.

He expressed gratitude to God for sustaining him during his period in office and for enabling him to leave the office in good health. He commended President Goodluck Jonathan for giving him the opportunity to serve during his administration, particularly for conducting peaceful general elections that were adjudged as credible, free and fair.

The former IGP called on the police to carry out their duties with diligence without fear or favor in the conduct of run-off elections in three states.

In his inaugural speech, Mr. Arase stated that, apart from routine operations, the police have two major national assignments where their professional expertise and commitment will once again be subjected to national and international scrutiny. He said the first challenge has to do with the holding of governorship elections in areas where the polling results were declared inconclusive by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Imo, Abia and Taraba States. The second challenge for the police, according to the acting IG, is to ensure hitch-free presidential, governorship and national as well as state assembly inauguration ceremonies.

Mr. Arase promised to work closely with INEC and other strategic stakeholders to ensure violence-free elections in affected states. He also assured Nigerians of their safety, adding that police officers would be instructed to treat all citizens with civility and to hold citizens’ human rights as sacred.

“Toward this end, a strategic police vision document which encapsulates intelligence-led policing, community partnership, restorative justice, re-assurance policing and healthy respect for human rights will be developed in due course,” said the acting IG.

This should serve as a lesson to everybody. Whatever position you hold, remember 'Nothing lasts forever'. Now all of them are apologizing.

Don't bother apologizing! For the laws you broke, you'll pay! There's a new Sheriff in town(GMB), therefore no more impunity...

It's always good to apologize but why is it so difficult to act within the bounds of the law?

I think it's better to act according to the dictates of the laws and offend a few oligarchs than rubbish the law (a seniir law enforcement officer for that matter) and become a public enemy.

Surely Suleman Abba must be regretting dancing to the tunes of GEJ on those occasions he did.

Mr Sule,

Apology not accepted, you are not genuinely sorry, you are only on a self preservation course. Too little too late though.

When you took it upon yourself to stop the no 4 citizen of the nation from discharging his duties and also withdrew his security details thereby exposing him to harm and untold humiliation, you didn't offend only mal tambuwal, you offended the whole Nation whose constitution you trampled upon..

You are a man without honour, just save us the drama and disappear into oblivion but don't forget to watch mal tambuwal being sworned in as governor come may 29th. cool

Well, apology accepted. No good to work under a clueless and manipulative government. I bet he was sacked because during the last election, he tried to play fair. The FG was disappointed he didn't do enough to manipulate the elections.

Because he did not assist your party to rig as usual, he makes your party loss. Well I'm happy because he has done so many illegal things just to satisfy the impunity of power hungry man we have in asorock villa. Imagine a police that tear gas honorable member and speaker house of rep, imagine a police who supported impunity against a state governor, i imagine a police who withdraw the security aid of speaker, governor and every opposition member.
I just wish silly Joseph mbu can learn from this and all government agencies can learn from this bad example, honestly our government agencies are bad but Jonathan's administration made them worse, it has been seriously destroyed and bastardized by this administration.

Surely an era of apologies and begging for forgiveness.

A true reflection of the damage done by the outgoing government and the senior office holders.....

Unfortunately, he didn't err on the side of the people, though it's very difficult in Nigeria to strike a balance between loyalty to the people and loyalty to the president.

If you are loyal to the people, the president will fire you and if you are loyal to only the president, the people 'll criticize you. Its a difficult job, really.

Because he didn't dance to the tone of cluelessness and lawlessness during elections? Sorry, Suleiman wasn't the reason for pdp epic fall,the following was;

*Mediocrity
*Arrogance
*unimaginable level of corruption
*politics of assassination and character assaination that drew sentiments from the electorate towards the then opposition.
*Recorded low level of development for the past six years
*politics of intimidation! Even an ordinary aide's wife to sambo snatched a piece of land belonging to someone in Apo. She went as far as harassing the man with Sss and police in the presence of his wife and children.Which brings us to the next;
*Bastardization of the military, police force and paramilitaries.
*non chalant attitude towards the chibock gurls. The parents of the gurls are here in the outskirts of abuja living In a very bad environment, feeding from hand to mouth currently as I speak!
*Anarchy, this regime recorded the highest number of jungle justice! It may interest you to know that two of the guys that hacked those Allu 4 guys to death were seen among those hoodlums that disrupted River states election. Oh Yea dear! They have been released!
*mismanagement of public funds.
*Federal civil servants complain so much about delayed payment of salaries and the fact that govt placed a ban on some travels. Civil servants don't joke with that! Many voted against Jonathan. No enjoyment for them under Jonathan government.
*marginalised yorubas , the only position was the minority leader under Apc. Too bad.sbad.so yoruba fuccck ed him up, big time!
*The uncouth nature of his wife, campaign manager, doyin okupke, and other pdp characters who use the media to pass very offensive messages.
*politics of religious and ethnic intolerance was promoted by this government! Worst in the history of Nigeria.
* did I fail to mention "stealing isn't corruption"? .What a painful speech on citizens that feeds on less than a dollar per day.And to justify these, NO BODY HAS BEEN CHARGED FOR STEALING PUBLIC FUND.
*immigration scam, high rate of unemployment! The youth decided to send a clear message across cheesy

He should apologize to Tambuwal first and foremost. That ugly incident of the police interpreting the law instead of enforcing the law.

My dislike for that man, and the police generally, grew exponentially after that HoR incident. It was one of the lowest points in the history of the Nigerian Police Force.
