33 First Class Graduates As Lautech Holds 12th Convocation Ceremony by jayebros01(m): 3:26pm On Apr 23, 2015
No fewer than 33 students obtained first class degrees
in the 2013/2014 academic session from the Ladoke
Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, the
authorities announced on Monday.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Adeniyi
Gbadegesin, stated this in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, at a
briefing to herald the institution’s 12th convocation.
According to Gbadegesin, the 33 candidates are part of
the 4,697 candidates who will graduate from the
university this week.
He added, “A total of 4,697 first degrees and over 9,000
higher degrees would be awarded during this
convocation.
The breakdown is: 33 first class; 1,144 second class
upper; 2,575 second class lower; 692 third class; 140
nursing students.”
The VC explained that the convocation ceremonies
starting on April 23 would coincide with the 25th
Founder’s Day ceremony of the university.
He, however, said the ceremonies would not be
elaborate because the university needed money to
execute some other necessary projects.
Gbadegesin, who said graduates of the school were
doing well, pointed to a Computer Science and
Engineering graduate, Mr. Olaolu Ayoola, who recently
produced a surveillance drone he designed during his
National Youth Service Corps programme in Osun
State.
The VC, who hailed the support of the governments of
Oyo and Osun states, noted that the university was on
the verge of a major expansion.
He said, “As I speak to you, work is at an advanced
stage at the university’s proposed Institute of Software
Engineering.
A Memorandum of Understanding between a leading
mechanical engineering/automobile company, RT
Briscoe, and LAUTECH has been signed to provide
hands-on training ground for our students.”
