Has any president ever consulted any police council?

Let us not make this any complex pls

Nigerians. SMH. Is this how to answer?

I am glad Abba is out but it was done the wrong way. The same GEJ vetoed the ammendment of the constitution because it didn't follow due process. Why did he skip the rules in this case?

If an individual is accused of theft is he supposed to say "How many others have you accused or caught?" That is not addressing the issue.

There continues the impunity of the Jona regime. This same impunity caused him to fail to convince a lot of Nigerians to reelect him. From impunity in:

-sacking a chief of army staff when he went to represent Nigeria at an international engagement (cowardly way of sacking).

-sacking the CBN gov in an unconstitutional way when he was out of the country representing Nigeria at an international engagement (cowardly way of sacking).

-encouraging and supporting minority to upstage majority in Rivers assembly.

-encouraging division in the Nigeria Gov's forum just because your preferred candidate lost a free and fair election.

-encouraging and supporting the embarrassment of the Speaker of the House of Reps, the House in general and the entire Nigerian people in an unconstitutional way just because he decamped from your party with a valid legal basis (this particular one was a big assault on Nigeria's democracy).

-encouraging and supporting unnecessary impeachment proceedings in Adamawa and Nasarawa because of personal grouse with the govs. That of Nasarawa failed and almost threw the state into chaos. That of Adamawa succeeded and looks very likely to be upturned by the courts and thus creating additional confusion and waste of funds.

- encouraging minority (7) to send majority (19) packing from the Ekiti state house of assembly. I am very sure if GEJ calls for just 1 meeting with all the members of the EKITI house including Fayose and Ekiti APC leadership and mediate peace moves btw all parties as expected from the Father of the nation, it would have seriously calm nerves over there. But instead, he is encouraging Fayose to be dictatorial by sending the 19 APC lawmakers away and in effect heating up the state as if there is no other alternative way of resolving disputes.

GEJ has so many bills passed by the National Assembly not yet signed into law (some since 2012). Instead of him to busy himself in studying these bills and assenting those that merits assent before handover, thereby leaving a legacy for himself, he's being vindictive (another show of small mindedness).

Jona why are u trying to create more enemies for yourself before leaving? All the people u witch-hunted are taking strategic positions in the GMB govt. Why can't u just leave quietly. Now that u re soon going to become an ordinary citizen, it is in your interest to make peace with all sides and pursue it.

What if GMB comes on board and then reinstate Abba that his sack did not follow due process.

Will that not make u look silly? Are u aware that the police and others will still be responsible for your security as a former president and it is in your interest and that of your family to have a good rapport and relationship with that institution.

Why do u always prefer to act out of emotions instead of logically? A lot of think tanks are already of the opinion that u should have left Abba's fate in the hands of the incoming administration.

If u and your wife jam any of Dambazzau, Sylva, Nyako, SLS, Amaechi, Nyako, Berth Nnaji, or Abba at say an airport or at a function, will u not feel a pang of guilt at your earlier vindictive actions?

As u round up your administration, pls don't create additional enemies for yourself, use the remaining days to leave the legacy of a responsible peace-loving leader and a gentleman.

Abba’s sack illegal- Falana

http://thenationonlineng.net/new/falana-abbas-sack-illegal/

Lagos lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) has condemned the sack of former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Suleiman Abba. He described Abba’s removal as “illegal and unconstitutional”.

“It is a contravention of sectin 216 (2) of the 1999 constitution, which states that ‘before removing the IG form office, the President shall consult the Nigeria Police Council’.

“Since the council, whose members include the 36 State Governors, was not consulted, Mr. Abba’s sack is null and void. It should be rescinded forthwith,” Falana said.

Falana is free with any govt without fear or favour and he is a constructive and independent minded critic. He criticises timely and rightly, although he is much of APC dan PDP yet u dnt find him wanting wen there is room for objective and constructive criticism against PDP or APC.I think he wil be more reliable to be appointed as Attorney General than Rotimi Akeredolu in Buhari govt.

Sheer vendetta, our outgoing President is begrudging the man. Thank God at least we found one Police officer of whom we could be proud at last. Who knows whether what was intended for evil for the man will ultimately work for good? Just a matter of time. It also shows the level of bitterness within PDP, which rightly conceded in the face of monumental and historical defeat. The stone the builders rejected might end up as the chief cornerstone.

I don't understand how some people think or talk. Did Obasanjo consult the 36 state governors before sacking Tafa Balogun? Obasanjo was personally convinced that Balogun had fallen short of expectation for the position and he acted immediately. If a president has reasons to believe that a high standing officer of the state such as the Inspector General of police is being partisan to the extent of being present at the presentation of certificate of return to a president-elect who has not been sworn in, then it simply tells you that the said officer should stand down or be relieved of his duties immediately because he has lost the moral stand to continue in such a capacity. The moment the IG did that, he removed all doubts that he is now a politician.

He has never been a peace-loving and responsible person.

All his past vindictive actions say it all about the kind of person he is

He is devilish, tribalistic, unreliable and cunning going by all his actions and utterances over the years.

He failed as an incumbent president to be reelected as result of his tribal and religious divisive games.

And finally, he accepted the result of the election cos of international community; international community attention was solely focused on Nigeria at that point in time, and action that was facilitated by Obasanjo. He knew if a war breaks out in Nigeria as at that time, Charles Taylor case would be a child play to his own case.

I read comments here and I weep for the future of Nigeria. A President goes against THE CONSTITUTION of the Federal Republic which he swore by oath to uphold, Falana points it out and we all want to crucify him. The President should follow due process to sack the man and not through Twitter. Btw, this same Falana called out the sacked IGP when he went against the constitution during the Tambauwal saga.

GEJ is a good man! Sues Senate, House of Reps over Constitution Amendments

President Jonathan is a good man. He's just a month away from leaving as president of Nigeria and he could have signed this constitutional amendment bill that doesn't particularly concern him anymore but he refused to. For those who don't know what's going on, let me break it down to the best of my ability. Lol. So, the Nigerian Senate is trying to amend the 1999 constitution to the effect that it will whittle down some executive powers of the President and give more power to the legislature and judiciary.

If amended, it means there are some decisions and actions the president can't take without the consent of the National Assemly and there will be decisions the National Assembly can take without the consent of the president. Like I said, GEJ could sign this and walk away but instead he refused to sign it. He wrote a 7-page letter to the Senate explaining why he declined to sign the document into law.

"In view of the foregoing and absence of credible evidence that the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (Fourth Alteration) Act 2015 satisfied the strict requirements of Section 9(3) of the 1999 Constitution, it will be unconstitutional for me to assent to it. I therefore withhold my assent and accordingly remit Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (Fourth Alteration) Act 2015 to the Senate /House of Representatives of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
But now, the National Assembly is saying that after 30 days, if the president doesn't sign the doc, they will override his veto. Meaning that they will give themselves the power to amend the constitution without the president's signature. Now the federal government has instituted a suit at the Supreme Court to nullify the proposed amendments to the 1999 Constitution
