Test result from the laboratory of the National Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) shows deaths of some individuals in Ode-Irele in Ondo State was caused by methanol poison.

According to the results of the test carried out in Lagos State, the local gin consumed by the individuals contained a high concentration of the poisonous substance.

The outcome of the test was disclosed by the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Dayo Adeyanju while briefing reporters in Akure, the Ondo State capital on the latest development on the cause of the strange ailment that broke out in the town last week.

Adeyanju told the reporters that the poisonous drink had killed 23 people so far while 10 others were still receiving treatment at the UCH, Ibadan and at the General Hospital in Ode-Irele.

The Commissioner, however, again orders that sale and consumption of local gin otherwise called “Ogogoro” has been banned in the entire State ‎until it is fully established that it does not contain methanol poison.

Traditionalists in the state had attributed the cause of death to desecration of a shrineby some individuals, a claim that triggered massive visit to the shrine by individuals with water and leaf in an attempt to appease the gods.

They must come up with something wether true or false. Just like Nigérian police.

The same people That came up with nano silver as ebola cure, we later found out nano silver is a pesticide.

As much as ignorance is a bad tin, we always try to play smart by accepting science. science isnt always correct.. science is existentialist!

I've seen science disproved many times, seen an eye with CD/R 0.8 B.E revert to 0.2, but science says it's impossible.

faith is most important.. what u believe works for u

the post suggests that they all drank methanol in their sleep.. cos they woke blind and methanol is known to cause instant blindness..

this also means that everyone affected drank methanol, meaning that they are mostly (from the sample size of 23 dead) drunkards.. is that a valid premise?

people have a tendency to drink ethanol / ogogoro in the mornings and not evenings.. so they should have died during the day

if it was meth, they don't need epidemiologists to trace it back to the stuff, even the people would have known that it was the drink that was killing them

I don't know what killed dem but it wasn't methanol
