The key word is moderation not only in phones but in almost everything if not everything self.

The friend of a friend has lost job due to addiction to phone. Marriages have broken because of phone. So many countless things have happend due to over use of phone. The central theme of op message is moderation. Use smart phone but with moderation.

Whether you are addicted to your smartphone or not doesn't guarantee you from any of the disadvantages mentioned by the op. There a lot of things out there that can result to negative effects if devoting too much time to. So the op advice is a bit good but he shouldn't have place it on smartphone only.

yes my dear you really do, ladies are generally more addicted than guys! They use the most expensive smartphone, they change smart phones every birthday. I saw a gul once with 2 BB phones and one Samsung galaxy...guess what? she has 3 BBM profiles, three whatsapp profiles. There is no difference btw her and the mad woman on the street of Lagos! My dear addiction is really an under-statement!
