I think the most reasonable explanation is the coincidence of both the geographic and magnetic north. I saw a documentary on it, also navigation tools tend to malfunction in that area. Most other explanations sound like myth.

Over 11,000 years ago there existed an island nation located in the middle of the Atlantic ocean populated by a noble and powerful race.
