Following a petition from the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court has decided to probe the xenophobic attacks against Nigerians and other African citizens in South Africa. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/04/xenophobia-international-criminal-court-to-probe-zuma-zulu-king/ Cc lalasticlala 8 Likes |

This is a nice development, If they are found wanting, They should be sent to Alcatraz or even Kirikiri. My question now is this; When will they probe Oba Akiolu? 70 Likes 3 Shares |

Islie:Oh!... So because it didn't lead to death?...Its just because most of the Nigerians in that part of the country is enlightened, If it had been in the north, Thousands may have perished. So let's say the truth, The Oba's statement was inciteful. 25 Likes 1 Share |

It won't end xenophobia. South Africa and Nigeria are countries where a large percentage of the productive population is not in employment because the education system at primary and secondary school level is not adequate to prep you for working in the real world after graduating. Until efforts are made to adress the skills gap by making our education system more practical oriented....we will continue to have a large mass of unemployed. Also, South Africa and Nigeria have economies where the vast majority of people are dependent on getting a share of the national cake. Well...unless your GDP is hefty.....you cannot afford mass welfare projects. Governments must make efforts to develop industrial and innovative economies....so that GDP jumps up. After all...countries like South Korea and Japan, and even China did it. I don;t see why we should be so lazy. Finally....laws have got to be enforced. In 1995...Gideon Akaluka was murdered by some thugs in Kano. Are any of those people in jail.? How many of the participants in the 2008 xenophobia attacks in SA are in jail.? How many people who took part in Ife-Modakeke went to jail? Aguleri-Umuleri? Even the ongoing Fulani-Farmer clashes across the country? Until we start jailing and punishing participants....instead of playing forgiveness to maintain peace.....we will have xenophobia problems. The road to freedom from xenophobia is a long and hard one. But we will get there, God willing. Modified....It is sad that it has to be the ICC that probes the Zulu King. What about South Africa's law enforcement? 9 Likes |

We also want Akiolu's head...We don't see how one will be tried and the other left to orbit the tight confines of Isale Eko no man's land even though one had the importunity of suffrage over an homogenous yet war-like subjects and the other, a village chief to negligble fragmentation of those who are not war-like as their very abode has become a no man's land of sorts but can be deemed ostriches without a stomach for fisticuffs but also with a knack for slothfullness, extortion and merry-making..... 16 Likes |

Actually this has been long overdue. How can this ICC wait till lives are lost before they start thinking whether to prosecute or not? they had better not sweep this under the carpet. What is good for the goose, is good for the ganders. We want to start seeing people take responsibility for careless statements made as ICC is not in place for tea party.. |
