ICC Confirms Receipt Of Petition Against Oba Of Lagos by Sunnybobo3(m): 10:31am On Apr 29, 2015
The International Criminal Court (ICC) has confirmed that it has received a petition against the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, as a result of the inciting statement he made against the Igbo people living in Lagos State before the April 11 governorship election.

The international court on Tuesday acknowledged receipt of the petition filed by Dr. Josef Umunnakwe Onoh, son of the former Governor of Enugu State, late Chief C.C Onoh.

The Oba had threatened to throw the Igbo people into the lagoon if they failed to vote for the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Akinwumi Ambode.

Onoh threatened to present Oba Akiolu’s inciteful speech before the ICC which he subsequently made real his vow through a petition dated April 21.

Acknowledging receipt of the petition, the ICC Head of Information and Evidence Unit, office of the prosecutor, M.P. Dillon said: “This communication has been duly entered in the communications register of the office.

“We will give consideration to this communication, as appropriate, in accordance with the provisions of the Rome statute of the International Criminal Court.”

Onoh petitioned the ICC, saying he believed that Oba Akiolu’s threat amounted to a call for violence to be perpetrated against the Igbo people in Lagos in the event that the APC governorship candidate lost the election, which he noted violates Article 20 of the international convention and elimination of all forms of racial discrimination.

“Had the threat been made by any lesser person, we would have dismissed same as ideal threat, but coming from the Oba of Lagos himself, it was a call to arms and an incitement to violence against the Igbo people,” Onoh petitioned.

It will be recalled that it was a similar incitement speech by the Zulu king that caused the ongoing xenophobia rampage in South Africa.

Rilwan Akiolu thinks this is the 17th century where he can just make a proclamation and it will stand. He thinks people will act under his whims and caprice... He thought wrong.
No one is above the law, not even this Uncouth Oba.

In any sane society, Akiolu should have been in shackles in a solitary confinement. Calling for genocide against Igbos for not having same political ideals with you is something no sane human being should condone. The world has taken note and we are watching.

U need to be flogged mercilessly. Can u imagine the insolence from this demented fellow!

Is it becos GEJ is passive? Do u know where ur Oba will be at this point, had a more assertive leader been elected president?

Putting it mildly, let us just say, Lagos by now will be Obaless and their is nothing u riffraff can do about it.

Someone should remind me the outcome of HEDA's September 2014 petition to ICC against Ali Modu Sheriff and Ihejirika on Insecurity in the North East.

Or APC's petition against Patience Jonathan for her inciteful statements in the runup to the presidential elections.

The thing with we Nigerians is we take ourselves too seriously. The petitions end up amounting to nothing and usually end up in a slush pile.

Cases the ICC usually takes seriously are war crimes such as when a leader uses excessive force against his people as we saw with Saddam Hussein et al

He made a Mistake, I think we should allow it to rest now. I believe he has learnt his lesson. Thanks Onoh, we love you.

Great--let me begin to pack my things back to Lagos as this ICC acknowledgement would reduce the incumbency factor of the Oba.

At least things would begin to "stabilise" and no more threats to the citizens of the country.

Meanwhile, I await the outcome of the petition filed in ICC by H.E Rt. Hon Rotimi Amaechi on Mrs. Patience Faka Jonathan.

Any update on this case yet undecided

These people should go and rest, why re they full of themselves like this. Election has come and gone, then u re still licking the wound. Oba himself has apologized, what else do u want. If u like go to any length on this issue, nothing good will come out of it. We need to live in peace together hence the result may not be palatable cos yoruba will not fold their hand for aliens to molest them

Well, it is a good thing the speech was reported to the ICC just like Patience Jonathan was reported.

This is necessary for proper documentation and record keeping.

Oba might be Joking but his utterance is a major precipice to violence. Mr Onoh on the other hands is just a delusional Igbo ethnic dog, looking up to opportunities for vengeance. Before you curse me I am an Igbo man
