Taraba - Suspected Fulani gunmen have reportedly killed six
soldiers in an attack in Amar and Kambari in Karim-Lamido
Council of Taraba State.
Three other soldiers are said to be missing after the attack.
According a witness in the area, the soldiers were on patrol in
the area sharing a boundary with the neighbouring Plateau
State when gunmen ambushed them.
“There were nine soldiers. My brother is one of the soldiers
that were killed, so I am not in any way exaggerating at all,"
he said.
He called on the federal government to intervene in the
security situation of the state.
Chairman of the council, Bobbo Bello Bendu, said the attack
has been reported to the appropriate authorities handling
security situation in my area.
“We are living in fear because we suspect that the soldiers
would want to retaliate," he said.
Bendu disclosed that suspected gunmen from Tarok in the
neighbouring Plateau had recently attacked Fumang village in
the council. “They are now destroying properties and killing innocent
people,” he said.
He stressed the need for the police authority to as a matter of
urgency re-deplore anti riot policemen to the area.
A military source under condition of anonymous told
journalists in the state that the news of the attack had reached
the two barracks in the state.
“Our men in both Takum and Sarti Barrack in Gashaka are
already aware of the development. I am not in position to
speak on that though," he said.
Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), Joseph Kwaji, said he
was not in a position to speak on issues relating to the
military.
“Anything that is related to the military, I am not oblige to
make comment because I cannot speak on their behalf.”
