No Nigerian Leader Has Been As Prepared As Buhari To Govern Nigeria. by OrlandoOwoh(m): 9:50am On May 01, 2015
There has been no time any head of state, president or prime minister that governed Nigeria has been prepared to pilot the affairs of the most populous black country. From Tafawa-Balewa/Azikiwe to Jonathan, all got to the seat of power unprepared. Some didn't even have the interest.
1. Abubakar Tafawa-Balewa/Nnamdi Azikiwe: As it is with the practice in parliamentary system, the leader of the party with majority in the parliament emerges the Prime Minister. But in the case with Nigeria, the NPC (albeit with NCNC) which got majority had its leader, Ahmadu Bello reliquishing the office of Prime Minister to his deputy, Tafawa-Balewa.
2. Maj.-Gen. J.T.U. Aguiyi-Ironsi who became the Head of State on 15 January 1966 got to the post when the coup plotters of January 15 failed to kill him, having killed the Prime Minister. He got there in his capacity as the GOC of the Nigerian Army.
3. Lt.-Col. Yakubu Gowon who took over from Aguiyi-Ironsi had it "forced" on him by some northern officers led by Lt. Col. Murtala Muhammed, Maj. T.Y. Danjuma and Capt. Martins Adamu, who led the July 1966 coup. Any of them could have retired him and become the head of state.
4. Brig. Murtala Muhammed was called by Col. Joe Garba and other officers to lead the country after the July 1975 coup. It is widely known that Muhammed was flown into the country from the UK after all the airports had been closed.
5. Lt.-Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo who became Head of State on 13 February 1976 succeeded Muhammed who was assassinated in a coup on the same day. According to Kole Omotosho in "Just Before Dawn", when Obasanjo was approached to lead Nigeria, he was met weeping.
6. Alh. Shehu Shagari who was sworn in as the first executive President on 1 October 1979, was originally eyeing the Senate, not the Presidency.
7. Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari who became the Head of State on 31 December 1983 was approached by other officers who overthrew Shagari, to lead the country. He was flown from Jos, where was the GOC of a division to Lagos.
8. Brig.-Gen. Ibrahim Babangida overthrew Buhari.
9. Chief Ernest Shonekan was the Interim President. He got there when the pressure on Babangida became much.
10. Lt.-Gen. Sanni Abacha who was the Minister of Defence in the Interim National Government overthrew Shonekan.
11. Lt.-Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar who became Head of State on July 8 1998, succeeded Abacha who died on the same day.
12. Chief Olusegun Obasanjo was brought out of prison in 1998 to contest in 1999. He has less than a year to prepare after the trauma he went through in prison.
13. Alh. Umaru Yar'Adua: He became President after it was forced on him even though his health status was known.
14. Dr. Goodluck Jonathan became President after Yar'Adua died in office.
15. Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) became President on May 29 2015 after he had been contesting since 2003.

In all his years of preparation, he did not know he cant stablize global oil price?

He shld just find capable hands to help him out. because he buhari has no creative idea nor understand the dynamics of todays democracy and economics.

All he has is the willingness, but that alone wont change anything.

I see buhari like someone who knows where he wants to arrive at, but does not know how to drive or the road there.

He will have to depend totally on drivers. If his drivers abandom him in the middle of the journey he will be stranded.

Well, that's exactly what it means to be a leader. You must know where you want to arrive at, you'll know when you get there, but you need a competent driver to get you there. You Hire his services, he convinces you he can take you there, and off you guys go. Should I remind you that Obasanjo achieved milestones in telecommunications and banking and some other sectors without being a professional. GEJ failed because he couldn't control his subjects, he didn't get to the grassroots to access whether his government's activities were getting to the grassroots because he could've realized that his handlers hijacked the system. He allowed people to steal and get protection, he couldn't control his wife, imagine his wife summoning generals to a meeting during the Chibok issue. Well...

Obasanjo is more educated than buhari and is still improving himself. Knowing the destination is good, but knowing the road and being able to drive for a while is good too.

sometimes your driver might get lost and u can give direction if you know the way. What if u have a misunderstanding witb ur driver and he stops in the middle of the journey and hands over your keys to you. You should be able to drive abit to the nearest place to find a driver.

Total dependence on drivers to get you to your destination is risky, especially when the driver knows u cant drive.

Have you forgotten so soon that GMB was a governor in 2 states where he is adored for his achievements? He was the chairman of the now NNPC in the period when it built the 2 of the 3 refineries in Nigeria? And also the chairman of the defunct PTF? You seem to be biased in your accessment maybe due to propaganda or his accent when he speaks. That man is a competent and effective leader, he hires and works with the best, and has no time for nonsense when it's time for business.

NNPC and PTF in a military regime that produced the most corrupt president Nigeria ever had? Of which his stolen funds r still returned till this day. Buhari never raised an alarm, turned a blind eye while all this happened.

Military regime is like a black and white television. Just 2 colours, anyone can do well in that environment. Today we have a multicoloured complex system. What worked then wont work now.

In those days, children would call older people to manipulation the television and electronic gadgets. Today, parents call children to help them with smart phones, HD tv etc. Do u get the picture?

Well If you have travelled abroad or followed history, you'll understand that when you compare our generation now to the older generation, we have done nothing significant. It was the older generation that invented the technologies we use today, we have only made modifications and improvements. The old systems still work, using modern improvements. All you have to do is get people who can implement the systems using new technology in place. John McCain of the U.S. admitted he didn't have an email, that didn't mean he couldn't govern the U.S., the most modern society in the world. All you need is to have the right competent people in place, that's what America works on. We don't need strong men, what need are strong institutions which can function and last longer than men who built them. And if GMB is strong enough to establish strong institutions with competent men, that's good for Nigeria.

Yes, institutions strong enough to intimidate the press, Like decree 4. Just hope he strengthens the institutions like u said. And genuine in his fight against corruption.

Because it bothers me that a man with so much integrity as he claims to have, worked under the the most corrupt Nigerian president, and said he was not corrupt.

Why can't TANoids allow Buhari to start work before judging him.

You TANoids should just Relax. Six months after Buhari has been sworn in, you may then open your mouth in admiration for GMB's cleverness, soberness, meticulousness, astuteness and of course preparedness!

Delightfully awaiting the defection of many TANoids to GMB's side this year! grin gringrin

I believe as the OP that PMB (President Muhammadu Buhari) is indeed the most prepared president in Nigeria's history.

He has known the problems we're faced with over many years of contesting and when you add the fact that he had been a HOS before, you just have to agree to the statement as a fact.

How can he be the most prepared when he said on National TV in 2011 that he is not gonna contest again.

A man that doesn't have his school certificate is prepared

A man that made mess of himself during interview is prepared?

A man that stood by and allowed BH to destroy the north without condemning them in strong terms?

A man that said he is going to stabilise oil price is prepared?

A man that came in through a skewed electoral process that allowed for underage voter is really prepared?

A man whose first act is to try to gag the press is over prepared?

A man who doesn't undertand the dynamics of economics by telling us he will make dollar equal naira is really really prepared.

Abeg make we hear word

It's funny that he was so prepared but could not tell the people one single policy his government will run with. I was expecting to hear how he will deal with corruption, reduce inflation, improve the economy, create jobs, eradicate Boko haram. All we heard was lip service in that heavy Hausa accent of his. I don't think the man has anything to offer but only time will tell
