check out http://ginjaland.com

Built the CMS from scratch, using Laravel PHP framework as the back end, Bootstrap as the frontend and Mobi-Dan as the mobile theme.

Its a fully fit CMS, I am releasing the source code later in the year when I must have been done with school and have time on my hands.

@op so we should forget about programming then? And learn how to use cms? They is more to development than working for a client.
What CMS is Google.com using?
What cms is quickteller.com using?
Or what cms is YouTube using?

Please explain better to me how the decision of these companies to use cms justifies your opinion?
Does the fact that Obama uses a blackberry phone make blackberry the best of all choices? Who says these companies/organizations can't make bad decisions too? Do most of them even know anything about what's going on in their website backends ? Who knows if some just contact the most readily available techies around to design those stuffs for them. They just want to see a website up and running quick, who says they care much about how it's built?

What objectionists are saying in brief context is that, Nigerians have not gotten to that point where we should be using cms's . Before these white guys started using cms softwares they've been coding from scratch so why can't Nigerians learn the rudiments from scratch before venturing into cms packages even if they are going to eventually use cms? Most of the cms programmers in Nigeria know no jack about programming and they go about parading themselves as programmers. Some can't even write common html.

This is why it takes them months or even years for them to fix when stuffs goes wrong. Do you know why most of these websites fall easy victim to hackers? The reason isn't far fetched from the fact that their codes are familiar (which makes it easier to find loopholes).

For so long now only a few nigerians have ever done something creative on the Web even when most of them have brilliant idea, and you know why? because of their inability to convert their ideas to reality through codes.
If your idea is unique, you definitely won't find its cms code anywhere.

There's nothing bad in cms packages though if you're building a general stuff like blogs, news site, forums but nothing beats a website created to your own taste. It's easier to fix when things go wrong and usually load time is 5x faster.
.

One more reason why I hate cms is it's bloated code structure. Too many unnecessary stuffs

agree with you, Bro

Why waste tons of hours of coding from scratch when you could just use an CMS to set up your website in minutes?! Time is money.

Coding from scratch makes no more sense in 2015, unless there's no CMS that can handle the type website you want to create or you just want to learn coding. By the way, there are hundreds of CMS to choose from..

So anyone who's against CMS doesn't know its benefit.

The environment in Nigeria does not just encourage such endeavour.

You would spend time designing something that another would just couple together and get the contract at a cheaper price.

Only big corporation that understands cyber security would invest in such venture, the rest would just pick the lowest bidder.

But too much pluggins in WordPress based sites do slow them down and even prevent some from loading in some browser.

Check out www.ityunit.com, a blog that has been optimized to load fast on any browser (with minimal pluggins and scripts) and compare with others
pls whot's the deffrence between plugin and theme on wordpress?? Am just confuse about dis two, is both of them the same thing??

Those were custom solutions and who told you they dont run on framework?
The koko below of the thread is that, it is far more easier to extend those cms or leverage on frameworks than coding everything from scratch. Considering how much efforts were put into developing those frameworks, the experience of the contributors to the framework, and you developing your own custom solution from scratch to compete with those frameworks out their In terms of security and functionality. I agreed to the fact that frameworks and cms are not silver bullet to system development, but they have done great works developing those system.

In response to this thread: https://www.nairaland.com/2287661/why-nigerians-love-cms-plugins

It is good to note that it's not only Nigerians that love CMS, Framwork or Plugins. It's a global phenomenon.

The point is DON'T EVER RE-INVENT THE WHEEL!
Unless there is something outrighly different you want to offer.
CMS or Framework is not a bad idea.

If you have ever used Microsoft Word to type a letter, then you have used a CMS.
If you have ever used Photoshop to crop your picture, then you have used a CMS.

Just imagine developing your own Word Editor like MS Word just to type a letter.

The problem we should be looking at is: Our inability to make CMS, Framework or plugins better.

We should not just use wordpress and joomla basically. We should learn how to unleash the powers of wordpress and joomla by forking them and turning them around to achieve amazing things.

Mashable.com was using wordpress. Mashable is one of the biggest blogs in the world. It was later that they developed a custom cms for their blog.

New York Times blog is running on A CMS (wordpress). The official website of the government of USA is running on a CMS (drupal).

Even facebook (http://newsroom.fb.com/), google (http://www.gv.com/), mozilla (https://blog.mozilla.org/), and blackberry (http://blogs.blackberry.com/) are using a CMS (wordpress) in their blogs. Why didn't they develop a blog cms for their blogs? That will not important since there is a good one on ground.

Here are 22 GREAT WEBSITES running on a CMS (wordpress):
http://techcrunch.com/
http://www.newyorker.com/
http://www.bbcamerica.com/
http://variety.com/
http://www.sonymusic.com/

NOW THE BIG ONE!!!

30 Insanely Awesome Websites using WordPress as a CMS
SEE THE AWESOME WEBSITES HERE: http://www.1stwebdesigner.com/awesome-websites-wordpress-as-a-cms/

What I will challenge every web developer in Nigeria is to learn the in and out, hooks and functions of some of these CMSes and start developing themes, templates and plugins for them.

As technology evolves, web development will continue to be easier. It will amount to taking people back to the stone age to insist on coding from scratch for every project.

Thank you.
Pls can you help me to install a theme on drupal, i just install it now but find it difficult to install their free theme unlike wordpress which am use to

Theme is the general layout of the Web/blog page including color scheme and arrangements of posts
While
Plug-ins are all those effizy you see by the side like Facebook comments/likes, audience, they are use to displays interactive content to users.
So basically, you first choose a theme for your blog, then when it is live, you start adding plug-ins to enhance it

I do not think you understand my post. Read it again and tell me why facebook is using wordpress in newsroom.fb.com and why google is using wordpress in gv.com.

Using cms is good. Coding a custom application is good. You cannot accept one and condemn another.

It's like asking why people use paypal or voguepay to accept payment when they can code their own payment processing application.

You stil dont get it. They built facebook and google as custom app because there was no solution on ground. They used wordpress for their blog because there was a solution on ground.

We will continued to code from scratch if the needs arise. We will continue to use cms to speed up thingsa and not to reinvent the wheel.

There is no joy repeating what someone has done well.

It will amount to technology foolishness for me to code a cms from scratch just to have a blog. I can still be a great programmer and still use wordpress for my blog. Linda Ikeji will not be more successful than she is now if she had gotten developers to code a custom blog cms for her.

Here are my points:
1. If you have a good solution on ground, use it and create success.

2. If there is no solution on ground, make history by providing a solution.

3. If there is a solution on ground, but you have a better idea, go on and make your idea a reality.

4. Learn to code, but dont be too hard on yourself to code every project from scratch.

5. Learn html, css, js and php (or any serverside language), then learn one or two cms (wordpress or joomla), then learn one or two frameworks (laravel or yii). If you get a project, give them two options. Custom app (This wil take months and more money) or Cms (This wil take few days and less money). If a client chooses a custom app, i wil do it, if he chooses a cms, I will do it. Which over way, am succeeding.

Will it be fair to ask you to:
1. Develop your own programming language and stop using php, ruby or python?

2. Develop your own operating system and stop using windows, linux or ubuntu?

Pls dont just write cms off. I want a situation a Nigerian can become a wordpress guru and be known to have developed several plugins and themes for wordpress. I want a Nigerian that will be part of wordpress core team and develop security patches and updates for wordpress.

The mark of a programmer is not flexing muscle and coding an OS from scratch alone. A good web developer lavarages on the strengths of others. 99% of web developers all over the world are using one cms or framework to speed up development.

If you want to build an application like whatsapp, that is a different thing. Not every programme is required to develop an application like whatsapp. Building a custom app is not the only mark of a developer. A good developer can also be known by developing themes and plugins for wordpress.

why not cms, when it makes it easy to manage your site online seamlessly, and most are easy to learn and understand plus quality support and community around them. Not even talking about 100s of free themes

Based on your precious advise, I am firing up Netbeans I need to develop my own IDE Netbean takes time to load, it discriminates languages it doesnt support C# and VB.NET and afterall I could program in Java and C++++++ ,well well and I am not lazy anymore based on advise from Oga at the top gringringrin
Wait a Minute is that not stupidity on my Part, maybe I should consider creating my own OS from scratch Ubuntu and Window 8 ain't good enough They sucks, create a my own programming language, then have everything new, then I can have my own world too Where everything is being automated The reason was because Google created their own proprietary OS and Language and are now reinventing the world gringringrin Wait let me quickly finish all these project on ground for my client before getting started (procrastination on top laziness).

Pls read up and see some of my points I highlighted.

I am not against coding from sratch. I am not against using cms or framework to speed up development.

What I want us to do is to learn how to write codes and also how to use cms and framework. If a project demands writing codes from scratch, we wil do it. If it demands using a cms, we will do it. And since most clients prefer cms, we wil continue to serve them.

Cant we just develop or invent something for the world to use? Something like facebook, google, whatsapp? Again, I said, not every web developer has the passion to invent anything because of what invention entails (maintenance, updates, security patches, support, etc) and so they are ok offering services to clients and making a good livig. Again, the mark of a good developer is not whe he develops a custom application. He can also be known for developing themes and plugins for wordpress.
