In 1samuel. 13 vs 13, the Bible said,”And Samuel said unto saul, Thou has done foolishly: thou hast not kept the commandment of the Lord thy God, which he commanded thee: for now would the LORD have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever”. The children of Israel were assembled together to offer sacrifice unto the Lord which was customarily meant to be offered by the priest only. Samuel delayed and lengthened his arrival time for some reasons which we were not told. As a result of that, saul grew impatient and had to perform the duty that was meant to be performed by the priest only. What was the implication? It led to the statement of samuel in our key verse. For now would the Lord had established you kingdom for ever. Prior the this time, when the children of israel requested a king, it made God so angry that He made some negative statements as regards the attribute and kind of king He will give the children of israel. But at this time, God was willing to have reverted that curse if saul had remained righteous. For that, the kingdom of Saul was to be replaced with the kingdom of David. And it affected his innocent posterity.http://christianityupdate.com/2015/05/a-costly-mistake/

They are at times that God will overlook certain things we do because He is a merciful God but it doesn't mean He tolerates nonsense. That is why we christians should not take Him for granted.God loves us but He hates disobedience.
