Buhari and his petty ideas on leadership by example

Assuming their are no security risks involved; its a waste of very precious man hours of the President of a country as huge as Nigeria with all its complex problems that the number one citizezen will wasting time in traffic.......every second of the president must count

What he should do is to cut down of the bloated, redundant civil service, on the NASS incomes and a whole lot of policies that will better the life of Nigerians

Buhari jas a mistaken idea of humilty, modesty and leadership by example

Nigerians want a better deal and not all these cheap popularity stunts

The man is saying the truth.

No presidential motorcade anywhere in the world is subjected to traffic rules, traffics are always blocked whenever and wherever a presidents goes.

Is not about been humble or leadership by style, is all about national security.

Whoever gave buhari the idea of obeying traffic rules, doesn't have good intentions for him.

Every second delayed in the open space while transporting the president is a security risk

If it were Jonathan that did same, will you still say this? Will you like Jonathan to disobey traffic rules? Rules made by his government? Mtcheeeew... Bloody bunch of APC hypocritical e-rats!

Akinyemi, in 1987, stated his support for Nigeria developing nuclear weapons, referring to the proposal as the “black bomb.”

Ofcourse, he is.

Some overzealous aides of Buhari are unnecessarily exposing him. That topic in the first place was just so uncalled for. The other day somebody posted about his convoy entering Defense House and it made front page.

Overzealousness is dangerous.

you are not telling the truth. I have seen the British Prime Minister boarded a train to office before. there was no stopage of any vehicle or train from moving because his own was coming.

I have not heard of siren making noice in other parts of the world simply because the president is passing.

Re: Buhari's Order On Escorts, A Security Risk- Akinyemi by doctokwus: 11:10am On May 11, 2015
Both are right.
I think d best way to go round this is for d president's advanced party,as all presidential convoy over d world have, to switch off d traffic lights at d routes he plies at that period, and manual traffic control applied. As soon as he passes, its switched back on.
It could b challenging in cases where he has a long route to traverse.
If d above is not feasible then the DSS details can come down immediately they reach a traffic point to secure his car, though its usually bullet proof.
All in all his intentions are genuine and quite needed at dis point in time when impunity has become common place, but its left for d security details to strike a balance btw d message d president wants to pass across with his act and d security/logistics implications.

Word prof! Its ŊO̶̷̩̥̊͡ lie & it is good u pointed this out early. On the other hand I gave it a thought before now but felt GMB only gave that order considering the fact that He's just president-elect yet to be sworn in. Once he comes in & national issues of urgency begin to call he will change.
Secuurity wise it's not wise too stopping at every light just because you want to set an example, as the president He's got the backing to drive pass, all he needs do is to strengthen the various bodies saddled with the resposibility of managing road use & safety so the can enforce punitive measure that will reduce greatly & deter people from breaking traffic laws. If some gets booked & He's made to pay for it say twice or trice he/she will desist from breaking laws endagering people's life.

Step 1. Wait at stop light with rocket launcher.

Step 2. Fire rocket launcher at motorcade.

Step 3. Keep firing.

Nigerians are really stu.pid.

Stop saying what you don't know wise man. It's people like you that perpetrate abnormalities as norms in Nigeria.
Do you know the numbers of lives lost to lack of not obeying traffic rules by escorts of politicians in Nigeria?

So those lives are worthless? If they kill all the citizens, will they rule space?

You are really a wise man.

You know why? Because the route he takes is cordoned off from regular traffic. Which means that you as a regular citizen will have to take an alternate route to get to your destination. That i have to explain this is amazing.

The pope was well regarded and well loved, and someone still found a reason to shoot him.
President John F. Kenedy was well regarded and well loved and someone still found a reason to assassinate him.
Martin luther King was well regarded and well loved and someone still found a reason to assassinate him.

If Nigerians can't get it into their thick skulls that the president does not have to obey traffic rules for security purposes, then you do deserve a stu.pid person as president.

Now this is a good example of what a Nairaland argument should look like.

Point-driven and not out of spite.

That you chose to explain it is laughable.

I was only trying to see if there are a few presidents who chose to obey traffic rules. Nothing more.

The reason government has not fixed the incessant traffic congestion experienced by the citizenry is because they dont experience it, same for power, they all have continous supply in their house.

Fashola's attempt to solve lagos traffic congestion is because he experiences the same every day and he could feel the heartbeat of the people

I remembered Obasanjo said he never knew there was traffic on Agege motor road....

If they obey traffic rules, they will feel the pulse of the nigerian people and would also be looking for a way to solve it.

Same goes for our rich men too..
