I DON'T GET YOU, YOU ARE SORRY FOR THEM? IT DOESN'T OCCUR TO YOU THAT THESE BANKS MAY BE SYSTEMATICALY LAUNDRY STOLED MONIES, WHY SHOULD THEY BLATANTLY VIOLATE A LAW THEY KNOW THE CONSEQUENCE? 5.5BILLIONS IS NOT MONEY YOU JUST WOKE UP ONE BLESSED AND DECIDE TO INVEST IT IN AN ECONOMY 510BILLION$, LEFT FOR ME C.B.N SHOULD HAVE CONFISTICATE THE SAID PROPERTY AND FINE THE THE BANK 50% WORTH OF PROPERTY AND ALSO PROSECUTE THE CHAIRMAN OF THE CULPRIT BANK, AND THE SAME MEASURE SHOULD BE APPLY TO ANY BANK THAT ALSO ENGAGE IN SUCH ACT.

So sad! ...that the burden of such fine lies on the shareholders(one way or the other) since the MD and the likes gets their pay anyways!

312 million thats roughly 62,000,000 each, thats freaking chicken change - the wouldn't even feel it, na we go suffer am, from experience, Nigerian banks dont lose, they will make back that money in 1 hour, just imagine a bank that charging each customer 10 naira for SMS and they usually send you at least 4 SMS in a month - lets imagine these 5 banks have 50 million customers 20,000,000 x 4 sms = 20,000,000 x 10 = thats roughly 200,000,000 naira grin

banks cant make losses jare
good. Now deduct the amount spent on maintenance, electricity, service providers (sms, and lets say data).
