Apapa Traffic Gridlock…the Good, The Bad And The Ugly by Nationaldaily: 4:17pm On May 15, 2015
As the traffic situation in Apapa caused by Tanker drivers grows from bad to worse, lives and businesses are coming under threat by the day.

One side of the newly constructed Apapa-Oshodi Expressway has been totally taken over by a huge line of Tankers waiting to load and offload petroleum products and other items without consideration to other road users. Theseactivities of tankers on the highways are gradually driving other business activities to a halt.

The economic importance of the Apapa traffic gridlock is very grave and demands urgent government attention as theApapa seaport remains the busiest port in Africa and one of the largest income generation for both the state and Federal government.

According to The Association of Nigeria Licensed Custom Agents [ANLCA], the Federal government of Nigeria loses about N5bn daily due to the traffic gridlock, and at the same time making lives unbearable for citizens around Apapa.

Speaking at a media press briefing, the ANLCA National Press Secretary, FarintoKayode decried the indiscriminate manner the Tanker drivers block the major highways leading to the nation’s sea port, and attributed the suffering of businesses and individuals to the attitude of theTanker drivers. ‘’Commercial activities are gradually being grounded due to the uncivilized and uncultured attitude of most of the tanker drivers. They park their tankers indiscriminately thereby blocking the highway, causing pains and discomfort to other road users.’’ He said.
