-Nigeria may turn to a two party state if the plan to merge PDP with smaller party sees the light of the day
-APC position threatened come next election
According to a
Premium Times report,
leaders of the Peoples
Democratic Party, PDP, are
plotting to change their name
and merge with smaller
parties who possess similar
ideologies following its loss at
the recent national elections.
A source reportedly said the
PDP is planning to merge with
the All Progressive Grand
Alliance, Labour Party, Kowa,
Hope Party and others to form
a mega opposition party to
challenge the APC.
“There will be a special
convention after the handover
on May 29 where a formal
merger process will start,” he
said
Governors Sule Lamido,
Godswill Akpabio, Muazu Aliyu
and a few other governors are
championing the push
towards forming an alliance
with other parties, it is
believed.
The parties needed to form the alliance
are the All Progressive Grand Alliance,
the Labour Party, Kowa, Hope Party
and others. It is hoped the new
coalition will be able to challenge the
APC.
Israel Ebije, a spokesman for Governor
Muazu Aliyu of Niger state, told
Premium Times that his boss backs
the movement and they are trying to
transform the party into a very
formidable opposition.
He said that many individuals and
political elders will be brought along,
and revealed that governors Lamido
and Aliyu decided to stay in the PDP
as a matter of principle because they
could not leave a house they had built
for tenants to come and take over. He also explained that the party might
have to change its name, because just
the word PDP has become quite toxic
to Nigerians and that it will be
counterproductive to continue to use it
as a viable opposition party.
“PDP may go and a new party may
emerge, that is the way to go,” he said.
This formation follows the APC
strategy, as the APC is the child of the
merger of three main opposition
parties, the Action Congress of Nigeria,
the All Nigeria Peoples Party, and the
Congress for Progressive Change, as
well as a faction of the APGA, in 2013
The PDP has ruled the nation since
1999 but is now entering unknown
territory, as it will be in opposition for
the first time.
The party not only lost the presidential
race but also the two houses of the
National Assembly and many guber
elections especially in the North where
it only retains Gombe and Taraba
states.

there better remain PDP if dey hope to remain national opposition because dis other parties are barely existing or are mere regional parties.

They have no option than to merger

Ordinarily, all those small parties are just there for awareness sake. The best for Nigeria is not more than 3 party group. I see no essence in having up to 20party groups.

That nonsense party might change their name to Useless Coalition Parties.

Ok. Bt what they dont know is that nigerians hate anything affiliated with PDP. Pdp is like a virus, they will just infect other parties if they merge with them.

I really hate PDP passionately.

If una like make una merge with NNPC, ISIS and Bokoharam. Nigerians are wiser now. If u dnt present a very credible and acceptable presidential candidate u will continue in opposition.
