In China, they're known as "nail houses" -- homes where owners refuse to accept compensation offered by road builders and developers in exchange for the demolition of their property.

The dwellings stand like a nail that refuses to be hammered down -- a not uncommon phenomenon as some homeowners resist dispossession of their land or hold out for more money.

Crazy people. I'm sure they will eventually yield to the government demand. Bearing in mind the semi conservative nature of Chinese government and her socio-communistic nature, it is heart warming to see this kind of respect for citizenry's right though.

Funny report-from the first three pix, those buildings look as if you're looking at a toll gate office. Na to just spread an iron barrier from both sides of the building to the end of the road-lekki toll fee don start be dat. Only God knows why they were unable to reach an agreement with the government.

*modified*
Just re-read the later part of the report. I think it's inability to adopt change or greed. Make dem stay dia na, na traffic noise go kill dem-Enemy of progress.

From all the comments I read, I see no one talking of the said country to be respecting it's indegenes.

With all the government's veto power, they decided not to demolish the houses without the owners consent.

If na for Naija...........!

U know d rest nah grin

Like the way some African governments burn down markets every year just so the poor can't afford the new price.
