i have this DELL inspiron 1501, for some weeks, if i turn on the pc, inbetween the first ad second boot screen, it tells me that my battery cannot be identified and that the system will not be able to charge it, click any button to continue,

it goes on to function normal after loading, but i'm scared, any solution given will be appreciated

Same thing happened to mine, by the time i searched google, i found out i was not the only one.

The solution is to flash your bios - i did not bother to read the post of the last poster (who happens to be a very resourceful person).

My Own Personal Experience After A Little Research
Go to dell drivers download website - i think http://support.dell.com/ - get the latest BIOS for your laptop (Basic Input Output System) - which happens to be a very small software, you will now install this on your pc from windows, then i think you will now restart your pc - and that should be that - then come back and give us feedback.

If your os is vista, then download the vista version. Most of the time xp and vista version are the same. To install on vista, you may need to right-click on the setup and click "Run as administrator" - if you still have problems, please post them here.

i have the same problem with my HP510. the battery is not charging at all, and it's not up to 14 months old.

i was contemplating buying a new battery, but if there is another solution asides that, pls help.

what do i do? do i flash the BIOS too? how do i do that?

Also, my Compaq presario C700 dvd drive stopped working, it wont open at all (i have a cd inside and it wont even read the disk)

is there something i can do about that too?

I am not sure if the problems are similar at all. I suspect your problem is a hardware problem. I am a programmer, so i am usually better with software-related problems and general computer problems. But i am not a specialist on hardware problems but can still recognize them but rather leave it for the experts to handle.
