Not exactly....the cabal benefit from fuel subsidy removal more...they will be able to sell fuel at much higher prices....meaning higher profits than whatever they are getting now.

The reason why Nigeria has not removed subsidy is because most Nigerians are living below the poverty line...and see subsidy as the only good thing they get from the government. Forget the fact that it is not sustainable at all...even with high oil prices...Nigerians prefer cheap fuel. And let's be frank...once subsidy goes...fuel prices jump....which means foodstuff prices and transport prices jump. In other words...it would be like the early days of MTN/ECONET/ETC...when one sim could cost you thousands of naira....before prices went down thanks to competition.

But most Nigerians...including you....do not see that. You want your cheap oil. And that puts pressure on marketers...who under subsidy end up earning little or zero profit. So it is either they risk the wrath of the DPR...and sell fuel at high prices from N110 and above....or they inflate the amount of fuel they import...and pocket the difference...while importing less than they asked for. I know some marketers are corrupt...but they are businesspeople...who are not running charities.

When we had high oil revenues....we could afford subsidies. But now we cannot thanks to the drop in international oil prices. This means no kudi for the treasury...the same treasury that we use to pay for subsidies. That is the main reason why subsidy must go. The money is finished. Oil prices will never reach above $100 again. And Nigeria has too many people. The only solution we have now is industries.

And was it not Jonathan and his cohorts that looted Nigeria dry?
What was the money used for?
Why were refineries not built even though they were glaring problems
How can you remove subsidy without preparing for the effect on the economy?
People are living below poverty lines, how do you expect them to survive if subsidy is removed??

Subsidy was partially removed. Did they fulfill any of the promises they made about savings from the subsidy? No! Partial or total withdrawal of subsidy will not make any difference. There is no political will power to fix the rot. And the masses.are docile.

Perhaps it is high time the people then began to demand that their government be run properly...instead of blaming tribe X Y or C.

And one of the signs of good governance is investment in education and power...so that we can become an inudstrial nation, and get off oil....and at the same time see a reduction in corruption.

But you Nigerians do not want that. You want your share of the oil money....you and the corrupt leaders.(And no, I am not here to make fun....I am serious).Even some of those fighting corruption and those fighting for fiscal federalism for the most part want a higher share of oil kudi...so that they can import luxuries for themselves in the name of empowerment.(That includes everyone...Northerns and Southerns.).

We need a change of mindset in this country.States need to develop innovative and oil free economies with their available resources. If they do that things will improve. We can no longer rely on oil. Oil is a curse.

We are so royally f$@#ked. My pastor must return all my tithes since 2007.. I have not sewn any benefits thus far. One thing though. Nigerian churches will surely experience a huge drop in revenues. I wonder if that will reflect in the number of miracles and prayers answered

Did obasanjo build any refinery? Wasn't there fuel scarcity during obansanjo regime? Didn't obasanjo try to remove fuel subsidy? Didn't jonathan try to remove fuel subsidy? Only kids who have no knowledge of history will blame jonathan for everything. Power jona, fuel jona, unemployment jona, yet obasanjo was the first to rule nigeria in 1999. I really pity this generation.

You said it. The masses are docile. The best they can do is attack the ones who can afford to live longer in this Nigeria

My friend ask yourself what happened to all the money of the past 30 years!

Politicians and Government officials have stolen the money. Their children forming born again are spending the money going to school in the UK and USA. They have used the money to buy houses overseas so they can enjoy the electricity, fuel and good infrastructure they deny us at home.

We need Jerry Rawlings type revolution in Nigeria. Execute past and present corrupt politicians and government officials. Else we will keep a revolving door of criminals in Government.

They look pathetic because you Nigerians don't have enough money to fund all the airports properly.

Well....we did elect Jonathan because we expected a difference in many things including fuel supply.

The fact that we are not having an improvement shows failure....which your attempt to justify by the way is very sad.

As for removal of fuel subsidy....it was a good idea.(And it has been there as far back as 1991-2.). Problem is, Nigerians , living under a dollar a day, see an economically unsustainable fuel subsidy as being preferable to raised transport and food prices with the (economically right) removal of fuel subsidy.

Jerry Rawlings (Junior Jesus to you wink) also followed the IMF's SAP prescription to the letter....which meant lots of govt employees lost their jobs. And a lot of austerity.

It did work in the end...but it took a decade to see the benefit.

Try that in Nigeria. (One governor elected in the SW in 1999 did...sacked excess staff. He lost the next election and his successor....rehired all the sacked excess civil servants. Wise man grin).

But we Nigerians have to do our part. Democracy need not end at the polling booth.

I daresay he may not contemplate it in the first 100 days....but he will eventually have to do it.

Unless international Brent Crude hits $130 and above per barrel...when we will have kudi for subsides galore.
