Hello,

One of the members of this forum posted recently about how he decided to beat his 19 year old sister because of a domestic quarrel (he's 22). I thought it was appalling that after doing that he had the audacity to come here to boast about it.

And there have been similar annoyances along this line:
- People who believe that it's sometimes ok to beat their wives and girlfriends if she has done "something bad".
- People who come here to tell us that "rape is a call of nature".
- People who defend female genital mutilation ("curcumcision".

As the administrator, I did not start this forum as an avenue for violent people to boast about their deeds and convince others to join them in there evil ways. I do not believe in violence in any form, and I do not want people to learn violent ways through this forum.

This type of thing would therefore no longer be tolerated. Please, let us not use the forum to promote the use of violence against those who happen to be too weak to fight back. We tolerate all varieties of viewpoints on issues, but views promoting violence will no longer tolerated, because this is a serious societal problem that we must not add to!

I am happy to know that 99% of the people on this forum are not violent people, and I would like the remaining 1% of us to repent!

I simply cannot fathom the thought of abuse toward women, children, the elders, or anyone for that nature. Such person receives not even an inkling of respect from me.

This kind of behaviour is absolutely unacceptable, no mather what the context.
From the specific case you mentioned and the 'similar annoyance', it seems to me that these people accept and condone extremely unequal and unbalanced gender relations.

How on earth can an 22 year old boy have the audacity and nerve to even think that he has the right to punish his sister?
How is it even remotely possible that someone defends female genital mutilation?
What kind of sick and puny minds can think that rape and beating is acceptable?

In all of these cases, we're talking about males (I certainly wouldn't call them men, weak immature boys is closer to the truth) that are abusing their physical and societal power to subjugate the women.

I have noticed in my dealings with Nigerian men - and with this I do not mean to extrapollate to all Nigerian men - that a considerable amount of them assume that they have more rights than their wives or sisters. I would applaud all Nigerian men that took an explicit feminist stance, just to counterbalance those that think they're the chosen ones

Yes, ther cannot be peace everywhere, and that is the way life is, but we do not have to live with it! We are supposed to fight it, and reduce it to its barest minimum, and that's what everyone is trying to say. Wer cannot promote violence even in its merest form, because its starts little and erupts into a menace to the society.

IMO, i don't think he enjoys beating up his sister. his was just narrating an experience of how his new HI-FI system got smashed. he even admitted he was wrong. the best u could do is advice him not to hit his sister again. the worst u could do is to just laugh at him.

u didn't have to send his thread to the recycle bin - people can learn from that experience - and u don't have to dedicate an entire anti-violence thread to him.

there are lots of other worse issues on this forum but u people wont see anything wrong with them - for instance, there's an aspiring homebreaker on this forum (https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-2285.0.html) but i don't see any anti-homebreaking thread.

I dont support violence in any form it present it self... cos U only no how it starts and no one can guess wat will happen at the end. So if u are violence-minded... I advice u to turn a new leave.

As for me, beating female is just not wat I like and I will never advice any1 to do so... they are fragile and they should be given the respect.
