Those of you who know me (or think you do ) know that if there is one thing I love to do, it's looking out for websites. Whether I am reading a book, driving down the road, watching TV, etc, I am always on the lookout for a "www" so I can check it out later and see if there is anything I can "borrow"

I just got my state govt's 2009 diary. First thing I did? You got it - flipped to see if there were any sites listed. I first went to the list of Federal Agency sites. Pretty impressive list. Being the trouble maker that I am, I decided to click through a few at random. This was by far the best (as listed in the diary):

I believe this has already been discussed on another thread. I would heed the advice given there. Yes, the site above is russian. I guess site ownership changed hands b4 the diary went to press. Either way, it's bad.

Having said the above, I don't subscribe to the "newbie" thingie. To me, it's a sorry excuse for bad work. Besides, for how long will you remain a "newbie"? Fact is, if we want to be honest, we are all newbies and should be so. I am always learning new things every day. I don't know it all. Anyone who says they do, are hypocrites. That is why I don't subscribe to the "guru" or "webmaster" crap. I am a developer, period.

You might take the following under advisement:
1) Get rid of the animations - they are making me (and perhaps others) sick.

2) You are validating your contact form but when it comes to email, entering an incomplete address just says, "wrong field". It would be nice if you could actually address the problem (something like "invalid email address format (then you provide an example)).

3) Incomplete pages.

4) Site Map page not consistent with look and feel of others

5) Top nav bar doesn't look balanced. I imagine you wanted to center it.

6) I took a peek at your code. There is no need using BRs with Ps. Ps are for paragraphs. If you need extra space b/w them, modify the margins/paddings settings via CSS

Thanks for the comment and advise ma, it was some that told me to use some flash at my banner stuff that it will make it more attractive and look proffesional ! i didnt put that before , and for my top nav ma,, i really didnt look it well that my laft-margin wasnt enough , ( probably Garri too much )and i didnt see it wasnt centred ma ,, am very sorry for that ma, for the email verification , i didnt code the javascripting myself ma , i copy used it and that was the default - ( but , no problem with that , i can correct it via my codes, i will try to correct all these stuffs during my next update,

Hey don't get bamboozled by yawa, the flash is necessary as a naija designer cos its wot ur clients trip for, but ur fonts are nt good and the flash is wide.
Yawa has a developer mindset, so don;t take design comments too seriously.

In don't understand wot ur page is for, adverts on the site!

You need to study other sites in your field.

Take your time to design your personal website; same reason why i don't have one yet.

Sides, ur page is too stuffed, hat's why we have hyperlinks,

bamboozled? developer mindset? wow! the mind-reading mentality on this board is amazing!

Nigerian clients may insist on some kind of animation but just as they have been conditioned to like it, they can be "uncondtioned" - I can attest to that. You can even get away with using a javascript library for your animations if need be. Don't limit yourself to flash.

segsalerty, if you could reduce your love for animations, maybe u'll help ur sight visitors a lot by not moving their eyes here and there to catch every info contained in every movement.

Animations are good but they have to be professionally handled (with gud fonts and concepts).

I am waiting to see the bomb. And please try to trim down your javascript. And as for flash, avoid using too much flash (if you like listen to webguru) so that your site will not be slow to load like some typical 9ja sites (lemme not abuse them so u will not think i am a nigerian).

And to the flash guyz, i am very good with flex builder 3.0 (i have written a number of flash apps with me), but due to the time of download especially on our very slow fast nigerian servers, i have reserved them for building intranet applications. Just so that you dont think i hate flash.

Thanks DHTML, I LOVE THE correction , but as you can see , my flash i put wasnt slow in loading coz i USED A UNIQUE flash builder ! but , i think i better use something better than a flash for my SITE BANNER !

Whatever, if you like compress the flash, flash is still flash. Best to avoid it unless there is no helping it. Right now you are concerned about getting the job done. No problem, carry on, i have no problem with flash. But i only use it when absolutely necessary.

However as a newbie, you must know that there are times that you may have to design a website that is truly crossplatform where you will have to leave out javascript and flash contents so that your website can degrade properly crossplatform and also be viewable on mobile devices also.
But that will come later. For now, just focus on getting the job at hand done, and done right. That is why we are here (notice i did not say I).

Well, as a newbie, you might want to concentrate outside flash. Though flash is good, and can be very interesting.

It has one major disadvantage, it is always heavy.
and except there is something you want flash to do for you, leave it out where necessary.

i can see the clock in the footer, have you ever asked urself when last you relied on time provided by a website. I think date is better. (except you are trying out ur javascript skills, i dont always recommend it.)

Don't call yourself that 

You can always use one of the many javascript libraries (YUI, jquery, mootools, etc) to generate a flash-like animation.  You could even do what I used to do for a while - create an array, populate it with images and on each page load, randomly generate an array index and display the corresponding image.  The latter approach, though not as "cool" still gives the user the impression that if he clicks more pages (something good for your ad campaigns ), he has something more to look forward to, with respect to what image you will be displaying next.

Probably there has been improvement in the background, but in the front, I still see animations and the green background I think is overkill, you could still keep the background of the column white and say, use a 1px black border to denote boundaries. Contact page still doesn't exist.

hmm, they didn't give you the mysql? As in they don't support it or it is there but they haven't set it up? If the latter, I think you can go in and create the db/tables yourself. It should be under phpMyAdmin.
