The current minister of Petroleum Resources and arguably the most powerful minister in Jonathan’s cabinet has been enmeshed in so many scandals that are quite hard to decipher. The more shady deals come to light, the more dangerous the angle to this seemingly corrupt ex-Shell Petroleum boss. As the minister of Petroleum, her office is on the top floor of the Petroleum Ministry, but she has abandoned that office and has practically moved into the NNPC Towers from where she runs the NNPC, PPMC, LNG, PEF and all other viable oil sector parastatals.
The legendary corrupt activities will come to light in a few months as the incoming administration plans to probe the NNPC activities for the past years. Even before that, one thing that is certain is that Diezani is seemingly corrupt; from her stepson who rents private jets clad in the most luxurious of expensive designer labels, armed with beautiful posh international girls and globetrotting lavishing government money, to how she herself spent crazily on chattered private jets and went to court to obtain a phony injunction stopping the House of Reps from further probing her. Her sins are numerous but this latest one that is on the lips of every Lagos and Abuja big boy and girl, seems to be the icing on her cake. You might have read this gist somewhere else but let us in our usual tradition serve you this delicacy in the most brazen manner.
There is a very popular Island big boy, Dapo Balogun, by the street name JOJO who used to be one of the few pet boys of Diezani Allison Madueke. Jojo who prior to this time was somewhat of a loafer or what you might term “Yahoo-Yahoo” boy smartly re-invented himself as an oil and gas player and got lucky at a chance meeting with Diezani when they were living at Navy Barracks Apapa. Jojo who’s tall and calm looking made a way into her heart and they became quite close. Before you knew it Jojo who has a very questionable street background became the darling of our very powerful minister. Jojo began travelling for oil and gas summits in Texas and other international forums. So loaded was Jojo that he would have in his entourage even his errand boy, Stanley another known street boy within the Ikeja environs. Overnight Jojo’s life changed and he began to throw money all over the place. He bought a mansion in Lekki phase 1 and even renovated it to super taste. But most instructively he became a champagne addict! From Don P to Cristal he lavished tens of bottles of this exotic highend champagne every Friday night at posh Lagos clubs. He became a top caller at places like Quilox Nightclub, Escape Nightclub and Sip Nightclub where the superrich Island crowd troops to on Friday and Saturday night for undiluted fun.
While his relationship with Dieziani flourished he was preying on her like a lion would prey on a goat waiting for the best moment to strike. Jojo, while always spending quality time with Diezani, smartly studied her house and its exit point. He became good friends with all her domestic staff and security details, always lavishing them with monetary gifts and presents to the extent that they all began to see Jojo as a family member not as a friend. Jojo knew too well that the honourable minister keeps a lot of cash in her house but probably didn’t bargain for the amount he was going to stumble on. So together with Diezani’s cook, Jojo broke into her house, made way into her secure vault and carted away over 20 million dollars, cash!!! Jojo compensated the cook with a handsome reward of three million dollars and took over 17million for himself. Diezani who was out of town as at when the heist took place, came back and on realising she had been robbed brought in the top echelon of our security services to apprehend the culprits. But her cook was very smart and vanished with no trace whatsoever as to where he might have gone to. Jojo was easier to trace and they first monitored his bank accounts and noticed strange inflows of big cash. They also saw that his account officer was working in connivance with some stock brokers and were buying up huge portfolios of stocks and shares at the stock market. They instantly arrested the account officers and the stock broker. They also went for his close friends.
The one that shook the entire Lagos social establishment was when they arrested the husband of Lagos big girl and popular PR girl Bobby Taylor, Mr. Karibi Whyte – the son of Justice Karibi Whyte. The situation became very messy and Jojo surfaced. He was dealt with seriously and they took back all the monies from him. They forced him and had him pinned down to the ground. Diezani wasn’t joking at all. Even with the euphoria of the whole mess, they all tried to keep it seriously on the lowdown so that it wouldn’t raise questions as to where and how she got that kind of money and most importantly why she kept it at home.
Jojo who had planned to bring the Lagos social scene to its knees with his newfound extra money became very pained but in order to save face has produced his own version of the story which he has been spreading to regain his street popularity. According to him, he made away with the money and after he was arrested he got the services of two top lawyers notably SAN’s who stood in his defense and questioned where and how the minister got that much to even keep in her house. He said his two lawyers were ready to even blow up the case in the media but was prevailed upon by the security agents to let things be low. So he was allowed to keep his stolen money in order for the minister to avoid a monumental scandal. But most big boys and girls of the social scene know it’s a white lie and all know too well how he was dealt with and forced to return EVERYTHING!!!
