Re: Toyota Yaris Oooooooo by promise72(m): 6:50am On Feb 24, 2009
Oga 190,

Let me tell you a secret. It might be that the price you are willing to pay is the problem. A tear rubber Yaris here in the U.S is about $17-18,000 plus taxes. So all in all, you will probably end up paying $20,000 fully out the door. That about 3million in todays rate. Mind you before shipping!

Even if you find one under 5months use, the depreciation will not have set in yet enough to put it in 1.7mill you wanna pay. (Thats about $11,333) To include buy, ship, clear, profit    Hmmmmm.

Unless you want a salvage one tho. Also remember, US Yaris is 1.5Litre engine as opposed to 1.3Litre in Naija. The above price should get you a Yaris S. Fully loaded. The regular one will only be about $1,500 cheaper.

.
Don't forget that you have to ship and clear customs

Below are pictures of Yaris. Blue One is Regular,  Red one is the S edition. Notice the "skirt".

You might wanna consider looking at a 2007, may be it might fit the budget.

Good luck in your search

Re: Toyota Yaris Oooooooo by larryshow4(m): 9:28am On Feb 24, 2009
atimes i sit to wonder, if cars are been stolen to be sold on nairaland. If you want something good, you should pay something good. How in the world will 1.5m naira get you a toyota yaris of 2005 model. There was also a guy that gave me a call from benin as well that he wanted a C-class benz 2004 model tokunbo for 650,000naira. i asked first if he was joking and he told me he was serious about it. I hope Nairalanders are aware that Exchange rate with dollar, pounds, EUR, Cfa Everything has gone up, so expect cars and every other things to be expensive as well. If the Naira value was still worthwhile, i can still believe you would find that car within your search. but my guy, if you know you want to buy a yaris 2005 model, Bring out the money that would buy you a yaris 2005 model,
You are the one that is going to drive it now, and nobody is driving it for you, Habi wink

Well my [b]offer
is that what goes up must come down, the dollar is only appreciating because people have this blind faith that everything is now hunkydory in America and that the worst is over because they have a new leader . . .

The fact of the matter is that the market has to regulate itself, properties are being foreclosed at a rate not seen since the era of The Great Depression, property prices have to come down, car prices have to come down, car manufacturers are struggling and going cap in hand to the Government to bail them out, Realtors and Estate agents are folding up, car dealers are shutting shops, people are cutting their coats according to their size . . .

In case you are wondering what bearing this imput has on the common man like you, and how this translates into putting food on your table, then lipsrsealed lipsrsealed lipsrsealed unless the chikala you have been eyeing in the romance section - whom you intend to make an honest woman out of - has put her foot down that you have to get that Yaris by March 2009 or no show wink

I disagree. Currencies are always relative - all it means is that the US is very bad, while others are terrible. All currencies can't go down at the same time, a 'standard' will always emerge, and that is, once again the dollar.

That said, My wife has a point - with fewer people buying cars, prices are dropping. Some are cutting prices up to 25% just to make sales. In that kind of market, just chill a while longer for the effect to feed through to naija sellers. The greedy ones will try to make excess profit, but some will see an opportunity to break into the market.

This is not the time to make rash purchases - you might get the same item 250k cheaper in months. wink

Im not sure where your economics is coming from but ITS FLAWED to say the least. When the financial crisis hit the US, a lot of investors (Banks included) pulled their money. Major banks in Nigeria lost a lot of foreign investment they use for transactions.

This caused the dry up in foreign currency to exchange hence it went up.
Oil went down too. Not enough money from the govt to float FOREX Mkt.
Less people sent money home cos of loss of jobs or partial loss of income.

There is low volume of cars sold, no doubt, that doesnt mean you will get a $20,000 for $10,000. the manufacturer too are palying the waiting game for banks to start lending cos they dont wanna lose too.

Keep ur dream alive, but it will take a while before the investors confidence comes back to  allow money to flow back to Naija and perhaps oil prices comes back up.

My dearest hubby, I quite agree with you and we are both singing from the same hymn sheet cheesy Its relative, the only reason the dollar is appreciating now is because of the financial Global crisis as well as the false hope of the promised injection of fund into the economy. . .

But come o, what do you mean by the dollar is the standard Are you trying to say it is the super-duper, superpower currency of the world angry angry angry tongue

Make me understand please Are you saying it was because of Nigerian foreign reserves drying up, drop in oil prices, etc, that the cost of cars has risen or are you saying that is the reasons the dollar is appreciating, Mr Economist-Extraordinaire undecided So the dollar is appreciating because people have less to send home and because the government does not have money to shore up the stockmarket undecided

So are you now telling me those manufacturers are going to sit on their production and not sell, in order to wait for the investors confidence to grow back and for the banks to start lending money again undecided

As a matter of fact yes. The US IS THE MOST IMPORTANT MKT to any Country. Period. The biggest money maker. There no country that doesnt have financial interest in the US. That cant be said the other way round

I beg to differ, US economy is the most important my backside angry You yankee doodles need to get your heads outta the place the sun don't shine and quickly assimilate that you and your dollar are dispensable and negligible, and always was, and always will be cheesy Before you, there was many, after you there will be plenty cool

What you call "empty promise" is called GOODWILL in the market. Lets assume that you are a merchant, You are probably likely to grant someone like Dangote a credit line than some regular person. Same as the US. The US is good for its promises and obligation. [color=#000099]US HAS NEVER FAILED NOR BACKED OUT OF FINANCIAL OBLIGATION! EVER! Not even during the World War. You need to get that.

You can continue to predict gloom all day long. Make my day. "When U.S sneezes, others catches cold".

Slowdown in the US resulted in the world slowdown, so somehow if you shoot a hole in my boat, funny thing is, we are in the same boat  grin

Nigeria govt and other govt that depend on oil are having a tough time in paying its people cos world consumption went down as a result of slowdown in the US.

I hope you see the correlation. U.S.A forever!!!

Wow, you changed tracks so quick, hard to keep up with you shocked

Mr Economist-extraordinaire, come back and explain how it is the Nigerian economics crisis that has allowed the dollar to appreciate against the naira, you can't pull the wool over my eyes grin Never mind the fact that Wall Street share prices took a tumble when Obama unveiled his £1trillion economic stimulus package without a clear-cut plan grin

By the way, what happened to Nigeria's strong foreign reserves, their strict lending conditions, harsh regulatory system, their high interest rates and their statutory cash reserves, thief, they too want to feel among and are now claiming credit crunch and want to be given a chance to start printing money ala Gordon Brown style, bunch of barowos cheesy
