Fashola denies sales of Tejuosho forms 18/2/2009

Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola (SAN) yesterday assured traders, who have made deposits on the Kaiyero Model Market in Oshodi, that they would not be displaced for electronics sellers.

The governor also denied rumours that the government had authorised the sale of forms for the Tejuosho market, which is under construction, saying no one should allow himself or herself to be deceived.

Fashola gave the assurance at Alausa, when he addressed some traders who converged on the residence of the President-General of the Market Men and Women Association of Nigeria, Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji, whom he visited.

He said the initial plan to relocate the electronics sellers to the Kaiyero market would be revisited, promising that the women would not be displaced.

Fashola also advised them not to pay money to anybody for collection of application forms for the Tejuosho market, describing such as a fraud.

He said he has not been informed by anybody that old and potential new allottees will pay for any form. The governor said if such payments would be made, government would officially inform the traders.

Fashola said construction work is on-going at all the markets being constructed by the state government at Oyingbo; Tejuosho; Iponri; Jankara and Ikeja. He appealed to the people to exercise patience as the process will take some time.

The governor said all the markets are being built by experts, assuring the people of being the beneficiaries after completion.

One of the traders said she has made a deposit of N1.1 million for a shop at the Kaiyero market only to be informed that government has decided to relocate sellers of electronic items to the market.
