Finally, the National Youth Service Corps has done the right thing and for the first time by obeying the regulations guiding public service procurement. This is of course courtesy of the new administration of President Buhari.

Up until this month, the procurement of kits for service members had been an exclusive and reserved right solely for some anonymous persons who, upon little investigation, will be seen to be retired generals, their wives, friends and family members.

Over the years, NYSC administration has blatantly refused to comply with due process requirements on procurement and had ‘dashed’ the contract to lifelong ‘cult’ members and ‘cabals’.

Now, Nigerians have been given the chance to participate in this bid. This is a very welcome development; one that will definitely put smiles on the faces of young entrepreneurs, small and medium skilled enterprises, general suppliers and vendors.

When people speak of self-employment, they tend to ignore the most important fact which is that government MUST create the enabling environment for self-employment to take place. When such opportunities as this are made available all times by the government and its agencies to the self-employed, he/she will enjoy the dividends of contract job and be encouraged to employ more people to help in delivering.
What this means is that a small scaled company can start structuring and positioning itself for the next batch of kits to be supplied to NYSC.

Going through the requirements, a tailor owing a small shop can start structuring his establishment for such contracts: register your business with cooperate affairs commission, start paying tax and apply for tax clearance and vat certificates, start documenting evidences of previously executed contracts (this is where documentation is important).

This is what we yearned for when we campaigned vigorously for a change in government. Who knows, with opportunities such as these, we might be encouraged to invest our money in businesses as inactive partners.

If you are familiar with contracts, you will know that a certain percentage is given as mobilization fee (always less than 30%). You source the funds to complete the contract and then get your remaining percentage.

But with a contract award letter, ALL banks in Nigeria will be more than willing to fund the contract and get their own share. Banks value contract award letters more than c-of-o of your land.

This change is coming as a result of people sitting up to do the right thing rather than the normal business as usual attitude. In times past, have you ever read that NYSC advertised for suppliers of kits?

Change shouldn't be coming only from aso rock, when we all do the right thing, we will experience the change.

That's if the advert is not just a front. They probably know who they will give the contract. All this one is to fulfil all righteousness.

Nigeria govt announcement for job opportunity are almost always for formality sake. as the people involve mostly use to hand pick whom they want secretly or gave out the opportunity to the highest bidder. well people will still try luck Shaa.
