Youths in Omu Ijebu, Ogun state, have attacked political leaders in the town for attempting to pass a vote of no confidence on the deputy speaker of the state House of Assembly, Remmy Hassan, who is representing the constituency.

Trouble was said to have started at the Omu Town Hall, Odo-Oko, where PDP leaders had convened an emergency meeting to decide the fate of their representative on his alleged disloyalty to the state governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, who also hails from the town.

At the meeting, which was initially scheduled for the party secretariat, along Ejinrin road, the leaders were said to have demanded that somebody should raise the motion that they no longer had confidence in the deputy speaker and that he should be recalled.

The suggestion was immediately countered by the youths, who openly expressed disappointment at the leaders for trying to take a stand when they were yet to hear from the man being accused.

Infuriated by the party leaders’ partial stand and their decision to go ahead with the recall move, the youths went on the rampage and physically attacked them, giving them the beating of their lives.

P.M.NEWS gathered that the leaders had to escape to the palace of the traditional ruler of the town for safety, while the angry youths threatened to raze down the palace if the oba failed to send them out of the place. P.M.NEWS further gathered that the appeal of the Olomu of Omu, Oba Oludaisi Mosuro, fell on the youths’ deaf ears, and sensing serious trouble, he was said to have taken the back door and escaped from the town with the leaders.

Oba Mosuro reportedly drove straight to the palace of the Awujale, Oba Sikiru Adetona, in Ijebu Ode, where he told the royal father that the youths have sacked him and their political leaders from the town.

The PDP leaders harassed by the irate youths include the party chairman in the town, Apostle Jossy Adebanjo; Otunba Robert Adenaike, Special Adviser (Political); Omooba Babatunde Osokoya, chairman, Ogun State Civil Service Commission; Barrister Sesan Lawal, Special Adviser (Legislative); Major Ferdinand Keku (retd.) and Architect Leke Adenuga.

In a related development, at Ode Remo, on Sunday, when PDP leaders in the Ijebu Division of Ogun state, gathered at Chief Kola Ogunjobi’s house, delegates from Ijebu Ife were said to have revolted against the decision to sign a document to kick against their son, Wale Adedayo, Daniel’s former Chief Press Secretary (CPS).

P.M.NEWS reliably gathered that at the meeting, which was aimed at passing a vote of no confidence on six members of the state House of Assembly from the division, the Ijebu Ife representatives collected the document and bolted away from the venue. They were said to have prevented the Omu incident from occurring again.
