Policemen planned to go on strike, Okiro admits

Police chief, Mr. Mike Okiro, on Wednesday said that some members of the Force actually planned to go on strike.

The plan, it added, was hatched at the Liberation Hall of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba, Ondo State, where strategies were said to have been mapped out on how to mobilise policemen across the country to be part of the strike.

The confirmation of the strike ran contrary to the denial by the Ondo State Police command which had described the strike as untrue.

The strike was said to have been planned by some young officers under the umbrella of National Association of Young Officers.

They had complained against the welfare of some of their members, warning that if necessary actions were not taken to redress their grievances, they would opt for strike.

But briefing journalists at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, Okiro, the Inspector-General of Police, said seven policemen had been arrested with the planned strike and that they had been dismissed from the Force.

Okiro, who was represented at the event by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Training, Mr. Uba Ringim, said that the seven police officers were dismissed after facing Orderly Room trial.

He said that the laws that set up the Force did not allow the any policeman to belong to a trade union and that the gathering where the decision to embark on the futile strike was taken was illegal.

He gave the names of the dismissed policemen who were also paraded, as Arifo Samuel, Fasore Ayodele, Ajose Adejumo, Yinka Ogunremi, Adesina Olugbenga (all sergeants); Emmanuel Olisa and David Awe, corporal and constable respectively.

Where's Kobojunkie for this one?

He dismissed them because they wanted to go on strike? So policemen don't have rights again or what? How won't they be looking for bribes? Their voices are not heard now! Now who do we blame for the bribe issue again?

I think 2 things will happen if police go on strike.

1.Traffic chaos ( d good old go-slow) will reduce by 60%

2.Nigeria will save billions of naira per day, savings from road side where ur particulars
