Did Ajimobi Really Conqered?? by Rockyheight: 11:50am On Jun 08, 2015
Dripping in celebratory Champagne after his supposed re-election and swearing-in last Friday, May 29th, 2015 as governor Of Oyo state for another term, Senator Isiaka Ajimobi will have afforded himself a moment of pride and reflection. However, a mere moment is all he can sacrifice before turning his attention to the litigation against his victory at the election petitions Tribunal.

Though his Media Adviser, Festus Adedayo has given us an insight into how Senator Ajimobi might have conquered the myth that defies common sense as to why a first term governor who had performed may not be re-elected, he however did not explain how a governor who obviously did not perform could have eviscerated the much talked about myth surrounding the second term jinx.

In his own words: 'The major factor that gave Ajimobi the victory of April 11 was his audacity to be different and his temerity not to do an about-turn when he was demonized by the opposition for daring to be‎ different". I cannot help but agree with Adedayo's assertion. Ajimobi was truly different. How a governor who had plunged the state into debt, squandered over 74 billion Naira of the state's allocation of the excess crude oil funds in four years while civil servants and pensioners are owed months of salaries and gratuities, with an education system on the verge of going down the precipice anytime soon as with other critical sectors of the state, yet he was re-elected .

Senator Ajimobi's victory should not only be opened to scrutiny, but also worthy of study. How a clearly anti-people, self-seeking and wasteful administration would have gotten re-elected beats imagination and common sense.

Even more instructive than the above was the conduct of the election. Findings have revealed that the 2015 gubernatorial election was the most fraudulent in the annals of the pace setter state. It was in this light that the Accord gubernatorial Candidate, Senator Rashidi Ladoja decided to query the conduct and supervision of that election. To say that Senator Rashidi Ladoja has justifiable reasons to go to court will be stating the obvious.

Irrespective of the support Dr Adedayo claims the governor enjoys, the question to be asked is that did the people of Oyo state actually voted for Ajimobi or was the governor simply a beneficiary of gross incompetence as exemplified by the Independent National Electoral Commission in Oyo state ? With the avalanche of evidence against INEC and governor Ajimobi, one is forced to wonder if Oyo state INEC was truly incompetent or if it wasn't a deliberate act of certain individuals who acted in a knowing manner to sabotage the will of the good people of Oyo state.

Dr Adedayo admitted that on election day, he saw a different and unique quality in Ajimobi, his principal. A coolness and calmness hitherto unknown. Could this sudden trait have been a result of one who was assured that he was going to benefit from a mal-adroit performance of the Oyo state INEC headed by Mr Rufus Akeju?

There are indeed many questions begging for answers which one hopes the Elections Tribunal will find answers to.

The mood in the state, for those with discerning minds, has not reflected the assertion that the outcome of the April 11, 2015 governorship election indicated the wish of the people.

Since the Governor is now referred to as the jinx breaker, who knows if he would be breaking  another myth by the time the tribunal is done with its work.
